    2016/2017 Barclay Shield

Austin is a Riverside Junior isn't he? Where would he go? Obviously he had a great year with the ball. Salm less so this year, but still a good season with the stick. They'd both get more cash elsewhere I am sure, but would they bother? They'd probably have to go to separate clubs.

Despite not posting a ton, he has also had a pretty consistent year.

    2016/2017 Mash Shield

With respect to those two blokes, that would be a very loose interpretation of "big name players"

Who are the big name players?

    2016/2017 Mash Shield

Certainly agree that a good coach will get improvement from players. Just not a huge amount from most players (also a function of the fact that the time we spend working on our game is limited). But the importance of the coach(es) can't be understated. They really help set the mood and culture...

    2016/2017 Mash Shield

I think we disagree on a couple of points. The best players run around in the top grade. You might manage to get a gun in the lower grades by paying a premium, but that isn't sustainable. It not about where you are on the ladder, it's where you are in the comp. Who are the guns at Mill Park &...

    2016/2017 Barclay Shield

It is a tough situation. Without knowing how close he was to the wedding party. I remember something similar happening in a subbies GF, with their pro missing half the day, and probably costing them in a tight one. My question is, if you are paying someone big money (if the 15k is true) why is...

    2016/2017 Mash Shield

WRT paying players. Lets compare Austin, Salm and Rosbrook to the "pros" floating around in Mash shall we? You don't attract top players to your club if its languishing in the bottom tier. In a broader sense. Due to demographic reasons, player walkouts, new clubs etc, small playing lists you...

    2016/2017 Mash Shield

Yup. Don't know what the answer is, but as a club you would not want to spend very long playing in this grade. Outright results are usually a pretty good marker of a grade, and by that metric this grade is sh!t. Three sides have lost outright 10 times between them.

    2016/2017 Barclay Shield

Hard to call the grand final. Any side that bats first and make 120+ will be hard to beat.

Dvca - How Do We Make It Better?

Mate that sucks. But probably more for HB than Banyule. It's worrying to have to pull your 2s, but is happening at clubs around Victoria. There is probably half a side @ HB also missing out this week because the other half are too casual to commit around Xmas. That's ~16 blokes who wanted a game...

    2016/2017 Money Shield

But when talking about how much he cost Eltham, you can't ignore his contribution with the ball.

    2016/2017 Money Shield

How about we wait until the end of the season before we start judging value for money. Runs and wickets in March is what Eltham will want.

    2016/2017 Money Shield

I think the point is true. And both those sides improved on their teams that were relegated.

And even more so now with the restructure of the top grades.
  18. S

    2016/2017 Mash Shield

This doesn't look like a particularly strong grade. I think Hurstbridge, Mill Park and PH will be the better sides.

At this stage they aren't. But it is a matter of time.

They'll split. With Cricket Victoria's plans to change turf cricket and dismantle subbies its inevitable.
