    2015/2016 Money Shield Thread

A big walk out would hurt any club, depth is tested in every side. Will be a rebuilding job, but the club has a proud history and good facilities, as long as they don't let the juniors lapse, they should be back. We shouldn't be dancing over their graves, because weak clubs are bad for the comp...

    2015/2016 - B & C Grade Thread

Certainly not a case of big fish small pond! Has remained loyal to Panton Hill over the years. You would think when in form (as he obviously is this year) he'd be capable of putting a good season together in Barclay.

    2015/2016 Barclay Shield Thread

Probably not in my opinion, particularly if the DVCA is just applying its rules. Notwithstanding, they certainly have a right to feel aggrieved, angry etc. It throws up a pretty farcical situation where Rosanna can stay up having won 2 games all season, and REC go down winning 4. Not the best...

I think any appeal would be in bad taste. If a club has knowingly cheated, now is the time for coping the punishment on the chin. They've seriously compromised the season. Its sides like Research et al that have a reason to complain.

    Dvca - Competition Restructure

It's a good question, I'm not sure it has a clear answer. Amongst other things, it depends who wins the semis! If 3rd and 4th wins their semis against 1 & 2 its a different prospect. That said, 3 sides in Barclay this season have each won 2 games, I'd question if the top 4 in Money would be any...

    Dvca - Competition Restructure

I think they just need to suck it up and go through the restructure (not delay it). The comp should become a two up two down in the future, keeps the grades more alive at both ends. The problem with the restructure is, as you have said, what's the point of going to 10 sides? They didn't want...

Loose lips sink ships. No sympathy for whoever was complicit in the cheating. Gutting for the club and players. Worked so hard to get up to Barclay, and were competitive. In a year when 3 sides go down, maybe a few people made the decision that they needed all the help they could get, and he's...

Monty have lost more games than the top 4 combined. Admittedly, the top 4 still yet to play each other for a large part. Which will make for an interesting finish. The gap between the top 4 and the rest is significant.

Riverside have no batsmen, and with a tough run home, are a good chance of missing finals. Macleod and DC should both make it, but a few contenders playing each other the next few weeks should make for an interesting run home. DC the benchmark again. Strong bowling, and usually get the job...

It would probably come as a surprise to many that cold weather kills more people in Australia than hot weather. Perhaps we need a cold weather policy for our local AFL and soccer leagues. The SMA is an interesting resource. It makes an assumption of 36C and RH greater than 30% which is often...

VSDCA 1s and 2s and DDCA turf played. Vic Prem 3rds and 4ths aren't any better equipped to play in the heat than Barclay or Money, but I agree that the correct decision was made with regard to the other grades. I think the heat policy is good and transparent, but a few degrees too low for the...

That didn't happen. Looking at the thirds and fourths there were results across the board. Indeed there was an article in the paper about 54 yr old Merv hughes and his 18 and 14 year old sons running around for footscray edgewater's fourths in the heat on Saturday. I think the DVCA has one of...

Tend to agree. I understand cancelling vets, juniors and even the lowest grades (often full of older guys and young kids) due to hot weather. But until you start getting up to 42C+ I'd rather be playing in the top grades.

Absolutely, and in the case of the DVCA, viewbank is likely to be a little warmer than Melbourne. Just wondering where the 41C figure is coming from. Personally think the 38C threshold is too low. Comfortable playing on Saturday knowing it might hit 40C. Keeping in mind that that'll be after...

I'm still seeing a 39degC forecast for Melbourne. Where are you getting your forecast from? Every competition seems to have a different set of rules!

38 too low for mine for the top grades. Played in hotter when I was younger. I reckon Heidelberg will declare at the start of the day and have a go at outright. LP v NEW & MP v Camrea both might get a results before it hits 38 as well.

Top 4 to come from the top 6. I wouldn't expect LS, NEW or Eltham to drop too many. Lower Plenty might lose a couple, but they have a 22 point gap on 5th and 6th, to that end I reckon the top 4 probably is done and dusted, Heidelberg and Banyule will need some outrights. Banyule's bowling might...

For the odd club, going down might be the right answer (ie. a bunch of old players about to hang up the boots). But generally speaking, scrap for dear life. Clubs will find it easier to recuit and retain players in Barclay. Epping are probably a good example of a club that battled to stay up for...
