I'll try and dig some stuff out regarding it. It is usually covered in the off-spin bowlers section though.
You may already be doing this but I suggest you think about how each variation acts on different pitches and what it means whether it lands on the leather or the seam.
I stopped the video at 0:17 and 0:11 for the second.
What is noticeable (although it may be the camera angle) is that your hips in the second video are slightly more to the left than the first. This means either you are falling away/leaning to the left more than what you have been or your body...
i also have a rotator cuff issue so I'm aiming for a quicker run up essentially and by concentrating on 'skipping' through the delivery stride will become shorter as the back leg cannot (in theory!) bend and straighten. I've tried shortening the delivery stride but this goes against my instinct...
Dan Vettori gave some great commentary once on what he does to vary everything with his deliveries. He said that on good batting pitches he tries very hard to mix landing regulation side spinning deliveries on the seam or on the leather, the reason being that on these pitches the ones on the...
Just spent a few weeks in the sun and away from the NZ winter. Reflected on my mounting injuries and ageing body and have realised a few changes are in order.
I've noticed that my back leg 'gives' quite a lot which puts a lot of strain on my right knee, calf and quad while also meaning that my...
Cleanprophet has already said most of it but basically by leaning over to the left your high bowling arm is 'cleared' to allow you to put more leg spin on the ball. This does have a downside in that some of your bowling energy is wasted but this isn't a problem unless it is really exaggerated...
The key with strengthening is balance. It is very tempting to only work on the muscles that help your bowling but what you find is that eventually those weaker muscles give way.
Other than that, get out there and run, endurance is a huge thing as a spin bowler.
I'm sure someone else here will...
Then as a quick you drop your pace and find your line and length for those conditions, we didn't do that so it is poor bowling.
What is Sodhi doing there and how come Astle was overlooked? Sodhi has a lot of potential but throwing him into games when he is clearly not ready does not help...
We bowled like c*** just as we did in England. I think we're paying the price for dropping Edgar as a selector. There's no way Sodhi had done enough to be selected again, likewise McClenaghan should not be in ahead of Wheeler.
Apologies for hijacking the Ashes thread.
Other than Boult there really wasn't much to shout about in terms of NZ bowling during the England tour. The performance against Zimbabwe is also showing there's not much depth being selected (yes, we do have depth).
Basically when you attempt to move your arm through quicker you unconsciously have your bowling arm in your follow through going down the pitch (more top-spin) instead of across your body (more leg spin). You need to concentrate hard on putting the extra energy in at release not in your arm...
Nope, it has to be in the same game.
i.e. In a two innings game: If you get the wickets with your last deliveries in the opposition's first innings and get the next wicket with your first delivery in their second innings you have a hat-trick. If you did this across two 50 over games you don't...
Hell no, this is the kind of stuff that divides the pros from the top club players.
The ability to read a pitch and use one of your strengths as a spin bowler on a given pitch is golden. Anil Kumble's effort to find a way to succeed in Aus is a great example of that (it took him a while!). It...
I agree, my brother is a golf coach and he always talks to his students about reaching that point where they are no longer concerned (consciously or sub-consciously) about their swing, club or shot selection as everything will just happen. Same applies for bowling.
This about sums it up :)...
Fair enough, we all suffer from a lack of people and resources.
When working with spinners in the nets I make sure they are bowling to a plan and I ask them at points in the nets things like:
- "why did they batsman play that shot?"
- "what do you know about the batsman's technique and...
