From my personal experience, running in doesn't add any pace at all. If I simply walk in for nine steps I build enough momentum to bowl the same pace as with a quick run-up.
Why would be want to bowl quicker anyway? We only have to bowl 75 k/ph and we're at the same pace as Warne!
He plays at international level, there they use their best delivery more often (most accurate, most spin etc.) In Tahir's case it's his googly. Recently he has started using it less, but only after the Protea coaches and players had a chat with him about it. Before that he bowled his googly...
Oh I'm quite certain that it has a good chance of fooling most batsmen at our level. I only got it right a few times anyway and not willing to try again. It was as fast as a regular googly, but with backspin. A problem I have with my googly most of the time is that it bounces over the stumps, if...
Brett Lee?
Funny actions work, not always but most of the time they do (ala Paul Adams, Mike Proctor etc.). His action isn't textbook but I'm not sure if it's affecting him negatively. My only worry is that he seems to be a past the vertical bowler, which is fine (I also go past the...
So the more active you are the smaller the chance is that your rotator cuff is going to be injured? I was always under the impression that if your bowling shoulder hurts (and mine has felt like I've been in a torture chamber all evening) it only means that it's stiff and you have to have a bowl...
The best place to look (in my mind) would be to look at the spot in the air where you want the ball to be. Determine which trajectory you want to bowl, look at the spot in the air where the ball is at it's highest and try to bowl the ball in that direction. That's why I look at the batsman's...
If your bowling in a 50 over game and one side of the ball has been scuffed up nicely, but the other side's shine maintained, which side goes where and for which deliveries? Lets say your bowling a 45 degree leg break, should you hold the shiny side of the ball on the inside of the of you palm...
Shorter run-up = more revs? Maybe the shorter the more turn, since you bowl slower with less momentum and the slower the ball is bowled the more turn you get.
Warne had a 10 step run-up if I remember correctly, not sure if it helped him spin the ball more but it did have some effect on his...
Yes it dipped a lot as well and if I were the umpire I probably would have given it out:D...
What are your thoughts on the slower ball bouncer? I'm not a big fan of it, but it seems to be quite successful and fast bowlers are encouraged to bowl it by coaches at my level.
No use asking other people what they look for when they bowl, you have to find you individual preference. I look at the batsman's head, Glenn Mcgrath didn't look at a spot, Warne just thought about the shot the batsman has to play for his tactic to work, and Richie Benaud looked at a spot on the...
For me a lower arm googly works better. It might not rip as much but it's much more difficult to pick if you bowl it at a good batsman. The minno's at club level can't pick anything if you bowl it well, but as you move up the cricketing ladder more and more batsmen will pick it and that's when...
The rotator cuff injury has never happened to me. I am very active and warm-up correctly but I have tried dangerous variations like the flipper, doosra, and have bowled over 50 overs of leg breaks in target practice in one day! (and 30 the next day) Is the rotator cuff very injury prone in young...
Yeah and don't forget who introduced you to Bigcricket;)...
My thoughts exactly, but you know how match pressure can get to you. And certain negative captains who believe they know everything about spin bowling. Like the one that told me I should bowl with the wind so that the batsman has to hit...
So there are spinners that have disappeared entirely on Bigcricket? What about the spinners who often post? Are most of them still on here and just gone for a while? ( Probably because it's off season where they live )
My 11 year old leg spinning cousin bowls the exact same delivery accidentally sometimes. It drifts more than a usual delivery and might turn slightly less but only on certain surfaces. It can't dip, that must be an optical illusion because a delivery spinning around a vertical axis is affected...
And that one went wrong?... Isn't the whole idea of the back of the hand slower ball that you bowl it with a slightly higher trajectory and it dips, then bounces much higher? But I can only bowl mine about 70 k/ph, don't know how difficult it was for those really quick bowlers.
Those are good videos, like those drills a lot! But look at the "over-spin" drill, does that rope their holding seem a bit low to you? If I ever did that drill I'd tie a string 3 meters above the ground, 6 meters in front of me. Is that way too high? It feels right and I can land the ball 2.2...
