Without being rude, but why do you consider the Subbies to be “by far” the best? Talk on here about being “promoted” to subbies, and playing in CSB, “an inferior competition”. But what is the basis for this?
I'm sure there are some good players, but there are some cracking players (plenty of ex...
Hampton/Brighton area is a perfect example of this. We have about 10 clubs within a 3km radius - I live a 1 minute drive from our ground and go past 2 other clubs!
I’m happy to be a CV backslapper, because they have given us a competition that suits our situation.
And as I said, it might not be for everybody – but I reckon there’d be some clubs who would be mad to at least not consider that something like this would serve their club, and their members...
I know South Caulfield won the GF very easily. But after 14 games the top 3 had all lost 3 games, all but the bottom 2 could have made finals going into the last round (admittedly an 8 team division, but that is a super format), the bottom team beat the runners up during the season – I don’t...
I'd think in the short term there wouldn't be many seca clubs who would run turf teams (or CSB clubs who would run synthetic teams for that matter) but one centrally administered competition would certainly provide the option, and make that option far easier to manage.
An outsider’s comment here – but we’ve done the 8 team comp with 7 two-dayers and 7 one-dayers a few times, and it is a great format. You play everybody home and away, and play everybody with a red ball and a white ball.
Just the initial pain of getting those down the bottom to go down a grade...
It is the logical end game for the regionalisation of turf cricket – to bring all cricket in the region under the one banner. It makes perfect sense but I just feel a huge dose of semantics will get in the way of it.
Make it CSB with turf grades and synthetic grades, and a junior section -...
Yep. I was going on the earlier post saying it was the same as the CSB model.
That is different -and on the face of it - way more complicated than the CSB model. Good luck!!!
It's certainly easier to understand (and given the lack of points given to juniors it's much fairer) than the VTCA model.
I didn't actually think it was that hard to compile.
Just had to work out the highest level somebody had played in the previous 5 years, find the applicable points, and...
I had to fill out the form for my club’s CSB points last year, and I can only go on what you have all said about the system being the same as what we had last year.
If that is the case, then the points are based on the highest grade you have played in the last 5 seasons (since 12/13).
The one...
No complaints with any of the grounds we played on this year. As an old DDCA boy, those councils were about 5-10 years ahead in terms of going to the drought proof grass - which is great for the old body!!
Nothing wrong with the final 8, but the two tiered finals were ‘interesting’. We played some good cricket throughout the year, some ordinary cricket – and then the Grand Final was pretty much how you would want it to go.
Really excited about this year – some great innovations, and really...
Captained the 2s last year. 3 or 4 experienced heads in there and then just rotated every junior in the club through there!!! Will probably look to do the same this year, although hopefully a few of those kids can work their way into the 1st XI (we had a couple of 15 yo debutants last year)
Great to have Parkdale back - hopefully the first of many to return
The third division is a bit higher than C1. Remember that they are all 8 team grades so whereas C1 would have once had about 35-40 teams above it (6 in Senior, 6 in senior 2nds, 8-12 in South and/or south A, 8-12 (or 18) in...
Agreed. The SECA juniors is a great comp in a difficult area. They show great flexibility to ensure that as many kids as possible can play cricket. Cricket is the winner.
The VTCA just seem to protect their own interests - which while understandable is a bit pointless.
The meeting certainly picked up pace at the half way point!!! I would have been surprised if the straw poll didn’t produce a different result if it had been done at the half way point of the meeting
The Bentleigh president asked a great question about how the VTCA can improve the competition in...
Given the amount of rain we have had so far (and with a few showers forecast tomorrow) it is a distinct possibility. They are just lucky that last week’s fiasco didn’t happen this week
I’m just excited to see a 2 day GF to work out who the best team has been in the 2 day competition this year –...
