Re: Leg Spin Video Analysis
Yeah, sound to me as if that's normal, although Liz is the expert so I'll wait to hear what she says.
I had a little go in the garden trying to swing my arm right round, and I can just about do it, BUT:
1. it feels totally unnatural
2. the ball seems to come...
Re: Leg Spin Video Analysis
If what you're asking me to do is bring the arm straight back up past the waist palm-forward without rotating my hand as I move my arm round, then I can't do that. When it gets to about 30 degrees behind me it sort of gets stuck. I have to move my arm out sideways a...
Re: Leg Spin Video Analysis
So would you say that this is quite definitely a temporary problem with my shoulder? Because as far as I can remember it's always been like this. I do know a very well-qualified physio, so I'll have a word with her about it.
I do like the name though: "musculus...
Re: Leg Spin Video Analysis
My problem is that my arm seems literally incapable of swinging round above my shoulder, so the taller I stand, the more round-arm I become, and then my accuracy evaporates.
Re: Leg Spin Video Analysis
My supraspina-what-us? I don't have the faintest idea how this came about. I've only been bowling again for the last four months, but when I was twelve I used to bowl around my shoulder in pretty much the same way, only back then I wasn't trying to spin it...
Re: Leg Spin Video Analysis
I have no idea about drift. I *think* I'm getting there but my follow through is so pronounced and takes me in a direction which makes it almost impossible for me to judge from my end. I've tried bowling only a few top-spinners and the dip seemed ok to me...
I...
Re: English Spinners
If the treatment of Adil Rashid earlier this year is anything to go by, the short answer is no. The way they messed him about and didn't play him in the one place it would have been perfect to let him get a couple of test matches under his belt (Bangladesh) is probably the...
Re: Leg Spin Video Analysis
Here's a video of my action bowling in the garden last week: YouTube - (more) bowling practice (previous video from a few months ago is here for reference: YouTube - Bowling practice)
Comments please!
Re: Tips to prepare for flipper/googly
I'm playing around with the flipper, tried bowling a few but they would have been no-balled as throws, but just practising the "snap" action it seems pretty clear I'm in for a seriously blistered thumb... I played around with it for about ten minutes, got...
Re: Tips to prepare for flipper/googly
I suppose even if I don't actually try to learn the wrong-un just yet (and I'm way too early for that) there's still some use in making it look to the batsman like I'm standing at my mark preparing to bowl one... :D
Re: Line and length without spin?
Obviously I'm still very much a learner but after a period of not knowing why I was wayward I'm getting to the point where if a ball is a long way away from where I intended I know what I've done wrong. Perhaps I'm at the perfect stage between beginner and...
Tips to prepare for flipper/googly
I've read the Philpott book and seen someblokecalleddave's very helpful videos, and these have been very helpful in showing a way to practise the hand and wrist movements required for a leg break by just spinning a ball from right hand to left. It's been very...
Re: A long-overdue update on my bowling
There's nothing stopping me bowling 10-20% quicker than my stock delivery except that I can't keep it anything like as accurate.
When I have an hour or two free I'll film a few overs and post it here.
A long-overdue update on my bowling
Blimey, it's such a long time since I've been on here you've opened up a whole extra section...
I've had loads of things getting in the way of my bowling, not the least of which was a car crash a few weeks ago (not my fault and whiplash the only injury...
Re: Too Much Bottom Handed
I've heard others suggest (and I think some top-class batsmen have done this) that you put a squash ball inside the glove in the palm of your bottom hand. I've no idea if it's any use though...
Re: Wrist Spin Bowling (Part Three)
After the discussion the other day about that lousy Cricinfo article on wrist-spin I've had a bash at explaining the Magnus effect and its implications for wrist spinners (Some of it's quite technical, some bits may be a little patronising, and the whole...
