Re: Wrist Spin Bowling (Part Three)
I know the golden rule in cricket is that you shouldn't change an idiosyncratic action unless it's causing you problems, the thing is my round arm action has always caused me problems.
I've only attempted leg spin recently, but back when I was at school...
Re: Wrist Spin Bowling (Part Three)
Did some bowling practise in the garden again today with a camera running this time so hopefully I'll have it up on YouTube later today, in the meantime here's a photo which shows just how roundarm I am at the point of delivery:
Definitely need to get that...
Re: Wrist Spin Bowling (Part Three)
Yeah, it's a fact that aerodynamic forces are proportional to the square of the speed, so increasing speed from 40 to 50 mph will increase the sideways force on the ball by much more than just the additional 25% increase in speed - it's actually a 56%...
Re: Wrist Spin Bowling (Part Three)
Yeah, I decided pretty early that it was going to have to be a long-term project! Let me just check with you old pros that I've got the theory of the delivery right (clearly, the execution will obviously take lots of practise...)
As I understand it the...
Re: Wrist Spin Bowling (Part Three)
I had a bit of a bowl in the nets for the first time on Sunday, the full story's here.
I thought it went pretty well considering I'm so new to the technique (a month ago I wasn't even thinking of playing cricket) and I did get a few to turn a little -...
Is it a No Ball if you bend your elbow?
The text of the relevant law is below:
Clearly it's a No Ball if you STRAIGHTEN your elbow, but is it acceptable to bend (i.e. un-straighten) your elbow? I'm a budding...
Re: Wrist Spin Bowling (Part Three)
Had a bit of a bowl in the garden this morning. It's not ideal as firstly it's uneven, secondly the grass is long and damp and thirdly there's not quite enough room for 22 yards plus a five-pace run up (it's only a yard or two short), but it'll have to do...
footwork, balance, timing...
Last week I was in the nets batting for the first time in many years and not surprisingly I seemed to have a number of issues to sort out. I've described them in greater detail here, but the basic problems seem to be lack of footwork, leaning back too much, and not...
Re: Just want an opinion.
In addition it seems from what I've read that while english willow is grown with the specific intention of being used for bats, kashmir willow is grown in a much more haphazard and less controlled way. This means not only is the wood of a lower quality due to the...
Re: Wrist Spin Bowling (Part Three)
perhaps if a club has several nets they could use one with bowlers bowling to a wicketkeeper - Keepers need practice too, and particularly with leg spinners if the keeper can learn to read the bowler's delivery it could lead to more stumpings in matches.
Re: Who's likely to be in the Ashes 2010/11 in Australia
I certainly don't think either England or Australia are at the same level they were a few years ago, although the current England team seem to have a happy knack of just doing enough.
I'd say on paper England's batsman have the edge...
Re: Is this Allowed?
This is an issue that captains and umpires have to decide before the match, but the standard arrangement is that anything that comes onto the field of play from beyond the boundary is counted as the boundary, so if a member of the crowd (or a stray animal for that matter)...

Re: Wrist Spin Bowling (Part Three)
I'm right-handed but the pain seems to come from the joint rather than the muscles so any movement of the upper left arm is slightly painful. Thankfully it seems to be mending now and it's unlikely it'll stop me playing. I batted in the nets a bit on...
Re: bowling laws
It's definitely legal to bowl from any point behind the popping crease, as long as the batsman is ready as you start your run up, at which point the ball becomes live. As to how umpires check you bowl within the return crease when you're behind them, well I suppose they'd have...
Re: hat trick.........
"A hat-trick occurs in cricket when a bowler dismisses three batsmen with consecutive deliveries."
It's a hat-trick in my book! Well bowled Sir! :D
Re: Wrist Spin Bowling (Part Three)
I'm afraid I'm not doing any actual bowling practice as my left shoulder's still a bit fragile and feels like it needs more rest. I'm just tossing the ball up at home, getting my wrist nice and flexible and getting my third finger involved. So far so good...
Re: Wrist Spin Bowling (Part Three)
Hi LegspinIsMyLife, I'm not qualified to give you any technical advice as I can't bowl anywhere near as well as you yet, but from watching the videos and reading your entries here I think your biggest problem is in your head. You seem to beat yourself up...
