Something I think that's working for me and improving my bowling is that when I'm in the nets, instead of picking up the balls at the batsman's end (I have a bag of about 20 balls) after bowling them all instead I have developed the habit, especially if all the other lanes are empty (three lane...
It will be a tense last few games but yeah I will just try to bowl normally. To be honest I wish they hadn't told me until the end of the season, I was looking at the board and wondering how the names got there. Then at tea yesterday one of my team mates started telling me about it and how it...
I love how deeply you think about the game, Dave, it's awe-inspiring stuff. Your blog is what got me into bowling leg spin. I was practicing in the nets with some mates one night, I was in my mid 30s and bowling medium (probably by that age slow medium) pace and it wasn't troubling batsmen...
Well I had a decent session in the nets on Saturday so told the captain I would bowl today if he needed me, I bowled 4 overs 0 maidens 25 runs 2 wickets. A little more pricey than I would have liked but happy with the wickets, both caught at cover from the stock leg break. There were a few...
That sounds fast to me, I don't think I bowl near that speed. For me the best pace is the one where you get the most revs, whatever pace that may be whether it's quicker or slower.
My team is a range of ages from teens up to old blokes, a few first team players, a bit Bertie Bassett allsorts. Some very good players, one guy who has just taken up cricket, some old timers etc. We also had a woman pro from Warwickshire playing for us the other week. The standard of...
Those stats are from a mixture of games mostly 40 overs, 35 overs and some 20/20s.
You know it's funny but I don't usually plan my wickets with any sort of wily plan, I find if I bowl my stock leg break consistently it troubles most batsmen at club level and eventually they will play a false...
I've been letting the captain do it, we have some good players on our team and when I'm bowling well the catching chances generally get taken with some drops too, but a good ratio taken. Occasionally I will ask mid on/mid off to come closer to the wicket when I think a batsman is not good at...
Yeah I remember SLA, he often advocated bowling quicker and straighter.
I'm glad the flipper is working for you mate, I guess each one of us is different and maybe I will give it more of a whirl but I do want to sort out my stock leggie too.
Yeah I hear what you're saying, just that in my head I'm a legspinner and I want a killer leg break as my stock ball as I think that's the most dangerous.
I am getting quite accurate with the flipper though and find it comfortable to integrate into my natural action. I can also bowl it out of...
Yeah the flipper is a backspinner, that is actually coming out alright so I could just bowl that as a stock ball but don't really want to.
I also bite my finger nails and think I have bitten my forefinger nail too short, and I think it plays quite an important part in my grip and how much...
I practice nearly every day for about an hour or so, I'm 46. I have some days off.
I think the callous on my hand is wrong or something, it is smooth on the ring finger at the moment and my forefinger feels wrong too. My forefinger is quite important with how I grip the ball. My legs are...
I'm fine thanks, I was having a decent season but recently have lost form. I don't know if it's from practicing too much, or stuff that's going on in my work life that's affecting me. It's quite frustrating. The ball isn't coming out of my hand properly, I don't even like how it feels just...
I can barely string three good balls together in the nets at the moment, my stock ball and technique has gone to pieces. It's very frustrating. I have asked the skipper not to bowl me on Sunday.
I was given a tight fisted spell of 3 overs right at the end of the game with scoreboard pressure on, 0 wickets for me today. Don't know my figures but went for several boundaries, one of them the captain tried to do a quick pick up and throw, contrived to throw it backwards and out for four...
Bowl from a shorter distance until you are happy with your line and length. Gradually increase the distance until you can do it from a full length.
Similarly, bowl from a standing start until you are consistent, then incorporate a bound, then a few steps etc.
Your action looks reasonable...
