    Selection Committees - Tips

Hi Guys For as long as I can remember, our club has always had the captains selecting the teams. In the upcoming AGM, a number of us, including a couple of captains, would like to push for a selection committee to be put into place. In our eyes this solves a number of problems : Certain...

Small Club Cricket Captaincy - How To?

Hi Dave Read through some of your blog again recently Some thoughts from me: A mistake I made last year was I didn't show a desire to win. I showed a desire to let everyone play and this put some players off a lot and they didn't really care how they did playing. If they have no desire to...

The indoor cricket you showed above I have seen in the UK once. In nottingham there is a venue that does it more like that - http://www.nottinghamcommunitysports.co.uk/ Otherwise, it is , as dave said, more like a sports hall where you get runs depending on where you hit it on the wall etc...

None of the schools I went through even played cricket. Part of the problem is that you can't play cricket until later in the year.... around noweven.... and that leaves only what, 1 term? half a term? of teaching left to do it in?

Yeah I like the look of it. Just been playing around with a dummy profile. I'm struggling to work out the best way to make say 3 teams from one club, where the attendance is required for the day, not for the team. Our first 2 teams are the same divisiion for example. I can't work out how to have...

I do see your point. I would argue that they are not "deliberately hiding themselves away", more not taking steps to make themselves more visible. They do not take measures to not be seen. If a keen young cricketer moved to cambridge, I would hope they joined a cricket club. There are no...

I respectfully disagree. It's very popular due to the friendliness and social attitude of the league. There is no ECB affiliation and they aren't actively being insular. Just they aren't shouting themselves off the rooftop because they don't need to. The spirit and friendliness in the league...

They aren't trying to. It's a good size and word of mouth keeps the leagues full. They added an extra league this year due to popularity. Cambs is a small place and with a huge electronics industry , everyone knows everyone from somewhere.

Haha, left JL now... working for a software company and getting paid more than double what I was getting at John Lewis. Becoming captain has made me realise just how disorganised the club is. It appears our 1st captain picks a team around tuesday, 2nd around thursday leaving the 3rd to sort out...

Dave, the problem, and great thing, about the evening leagues, and the indoor is that they are generally run by one bloke somewhere or something. The evening league here - the Cambridge Business House league (for pubs and companies ) has no website, there is one meeting before the start of the...

Around The Wicket To Big Hitters

You should always aim to bowl consistently and throw a variation only occasionally. If you mix it up, you have no consistency and are reacting to the batsman rather than the other way around.
