Thanks Dave, lots to reflect upon.
When you were starting out with wrist spin how did you approach solo practice? At the moment I have a bag of 15 or so balls, so I'll tend to do 1-2 bags worth of deliveries from a standing start from about 2/3rds length, then from a full length and finally...
Glad to hear you've been going well Dave, and very pleased to hear you've been keeping the seamers from taking all the glory.
On the run up, before I was just sort of strolling in off a few paces. I started doing more of a run the other week and found the extra momentum was helping me keep...
Hello again spinners 👋 I imagine it's been a tough summer so far for my fellow uk-based leggies, not too many dry pitches to be found in all this rain.
Latest from me - definitely making progress in the nets, I've recently lengthened/sped up my run which I think has improved my accuracy...
So to clarify, if it's the bowling arm that needs to go straight down, how did holding a wheigh in the other hand help?
I've seen drills where a bowler holds a cone in their non-bowling hand to act as a visual aid to ensure the arm comes down in line with the target.
Hopefully analysing my bowling isn't keeping you awake Doc, or maybe its an insomnia cure?
Anyway thanks again, that makes a lot of sense because I have been bowling accidental googlys which was a mystery as I've never honestly tried to bowl one in my life. I'm excited to try out this slamming...
A bit of an update from me, some progress but lots of frustration. I've learned to bowl with more of a cocked wrist as well as starting to get more of a feel for what a good ball feels like. Still bowling a lot of horrible wides and beamers though, especially in games where nerves/a lack of...
Bowled three overs yesterday in a friendly for the 3rds. The game was pretty much won, so I decided to be brave and try some leg spin... very first ball, I was rewarded when the opposition captain top edged it to mid-on. I don't think any of my deliveries really turned much as I was focusing...
Oh, wow it's a small world, I grew up near Breed and spent a lot of my teenage years dossing about in Hastings. Unfortunately the greatly missed cricket ground had long been demolished, but in its place is one of the better sports statues I've seen - some hapless batsman hitting wicket trying to...
Thanks Dave - you guessed wrong, I'm actually from Sussex! In terms of avoiding over rotation and bringing the knee through rather than swinging round, are there any drills or even ways to visualise this while bowling that might be helpful? I've seen bowlers practice their bowling from right...
Thanks for the advice/encouragement doc!
I had a quick bowl in the nets today and had a go filming it, some from a standing start and some from my attempt to run in properly: Youtube Link
People say hearing the sound of your own voice played back to you is one of the most mortifying feelings...
Hi everyone
I’ve been lurking on this thread for a while - I’m something of a beginner to wrist spin having picked cricket back up last summer. I gave up playing as a teenager because, frankly, I wasn’t very good but returned at the grand age of 28. Wrist spin has always been my favourite thing...
