2nd ODI: India v Australia at Kochi

Apparently the rain is cooperating and there will be a mar=tch today after all!

Dhoni won the toss and India will bowl first.

India: G Gambhir, SR Tendulkar, IK Pathan, RV Uthappa, R Dravid, Yuvraj Singh, MS Dhoni, Harbhajan Singh, S Sreesanth, RR Powar, Z Khan

Australia: AC Gilchrist, ML Hayden, MJ Clarke, A Symonds, BJ Haddin, BJ Hodge, GB Hogg, SR Clark, JR Hopes, B Lee, MG Johnson

Harbhajan and Uthappa are in, RP Singh and Ganguly are out.

Re: 2nd ODI: India v Australia at Kochi

Gilchrist out on the final ball of the first over!
Easy catch for Tendulkar at slip.

Gilchrist spent too much time worrying about the sightscreens. Plus he got confused wearing a shirt that said Voges.

Australia 3-1 after 1

Re: 2nd ODI: India v Australia at Kochi

Hodge edges it back to Dhoni!

Australia 8-2 after 3.1

Re: 2nd ODI: India v Australia at Kochi

Gah, can't believe Gilchrist is out already!

About time they picked Brad Hogg, didn't get a game in the Twenty20 World Cup even though he is Australia's best one-day spinner. A massive dis-service to Hogga.

And Brad Hodge is in the side, surely he's had enough chances.

EDIT: Surprise, surprise, Hodge out cheaply again.

Bring in Voges!!!

Re: 2nd ODI: India v Australia at Kochi

61-2 after 15 overs.
Hayden and Clarke are working on something here.

Re: 2nd ODI: India v Australia at Kochi

Clarke got stumped on a wide. He walked all the way to the boundary and then the third umpire finally took a look at it. It took a long time, but he was given out in the end. It was the right decision, but it was darn close. Clarke almost got back.

Australia 66-3, Clarke out for 27

Re: 2nd ODI: India v Australia at Kochi

124-3 after 25

Symonds and Hayden are putting together a rather imposing partnership. They've unleashed a number of big hits so far.

Re: 2nd ODI: India v Australia at Kochi

Watching a guy like Ramesh Powar, I have no idea how an unfit and un-physical guy like this could get selected to reperesent his country at such a high level. There is nothing special about him and lack of his fitness is absolutely embarrassing. I feel there has got to be some kind of favoritism going on. How can a country with population 1 billion+ not select a better player at this level?

Re: 2nd ODI: India v Australia at Kochi

Irfan Pathan comes back in 32 nd over and takes out Hayden's leg stump in the first ball of his over!!! @|

Re: 2nd ODI: India v Australia at Kochi

Ramesh Powar - the Elton John of Indian national team.

Re: 2nd ODI: India v Australia at Kochi

With a physique like that, it's a wonder he didn't take up sumo wrestling!!!

I mean, I know he can spin the ball reasonably, and one of the greatest spin baller of all time in this world wasn't one of the fittest player ever

and India has a long history of playing unfit spin bowlers going back to Bishan Singh Bedi, Prasanna and all

but when it comes to comically unfit looking spinners, Ramesh Powar beats them all!!!

Re: 2nd ODI: India v Australia at Kochi

India's run chase has started off at a reasonable rate.

67/2 off 10.2 overs.

Tendulkar and Gambhir the batsmen dismissed.

Re: 2nd ODI: India v Australia at Kochi

Matt Hayden made 75 and Andrew Symonds and Brad Haddin both made 87, Haddin being not out as Australia made 6/306 off 50 overs.

Sreesanth was the most effective bowler with 3/67.

India are in a bit of trouble now. They started quickly but they're losing wickets consistently also.

They're now 4/87 after 15 overs, Uthappa just fell to Stuart Clark for 41, their best scorer to date. Clark has figures of 2/10 from four overs.

Re: 2nd ODI: India v Australia at Kochi

Brad Hogg you gun!!!

Hoggy picks up the wicket of Rahul Dravid after and excellent balacing catch by Mitch Johnson on the boundary.

Only a few minutes later, Hogg fires in a throw to the Michael Clarke, who was bowling at the time to run our Irfan Pathan for one run.

That is why Hogg should be in the side!! @|

India 6/146 now in the 30th over. Only one specialist batsman remains and that is MS Dhoni who is 23 not out.

Re: 2nd ODI: India v Australia at Kochi

Harbhajan Singh got out, clearly stumped. But just as he was getting ready to walk off, he stopped and became involved in a prolonged ahem, shall we say, "discussion" with the Australian team. :D Not sure what that was all about?!?!?! Steve Bucknor had to literally walk over and escort him off the pitch. Been a while since I've seen anything like that.

And now, making a special appearance to bat, the one and only Elton John of Indian cricket - Ramesh Powar!!!!!!!!!

Re: 2nd ODI: India v Australia at Kochi

Now Clarke gets a wicket of his own. Flighted up for Harbhajan who came forward and Gilchrist collects a nice leg-side stumping.

7/154 in the 31st. Dhoni is 30 not out.

Are you saying he is gay? ;)

Nope, but just watching him every time on the field and the way he carries himself cracks me up. (He might be or may not be, that's none of my business. If he want to represent Indian national team, all I ask for is he keep himself fit, which he doesn't.) At first I didn't like seeing this pudgy dude, but now I'm finding his demeanor hilarious in a bizarre way. He's not as out of shape as that other Bermudan dude, I forget his name - Livingstone or something like that. But Ramesh Powar is comical all the same for me.

Re: 2nd ODI: India v Australia at Kochi

Ramesh Powar hit a SIX, Powar hit a SIX, I don't believe it!!! :D

And then he's gone very quickly, just like that.

So long Elton John, we hardly knew ye!!

Here I present for you, lookalikes:

It was a joke. Chandu. ;)

Dwayne Leverock. I think the "big rock" (as he affectionately known) is a policeman back in Bermuda.

Powar doesn't look that bad, although I can see where you're coming from. Perhaps if he shed five kilos he'd be in much better shape.

Meanwhile, this game is pretty much over. India would need a miracle from here to win. They're 8/190 after 39 overs. Required rate is up 10.63.

EDIT: Zaheer Khan out to Hogg for 3, 9/190.
