3rd Test: England vs India at The Oval

Re: 3rd Test: England vs India at The Oval

Tendulkar bowled for 1!!!

Was it such a good idea for Dravid to be not enforce follow on? If a partnership doesn't develop soon, this is giving psychological momentum to England which is exactly what Dravid didn't want.

Re: 3rd Test: England vs India at The Oval

It was raining at The Oval but that has now stopped. We could have play in half an hour when the lunch break finishes.

India are 3/35, a lead of 354 runs. Ganguly is 21 not out. Andrewson has 2/17 with Chris Tremlett taking the other wicket.

I am surprised that Dravid didn't enforce the follow-on. The rain will add some moisture to the pitch. Has they used to their advantage, they may have had an innings victory. India still have the upper hand though.

Re: 3rd Test: England vs India at The Oval

India declared 6 down for 180. Ganguly top scored with 57, VVS Laxman made 46 not out and Dhoni scored 36. Rahul Dravid did his best to chew up the overs, making a labourious 12 off 96 balls.

Dravid declared soon after Dhoni dismissal leaving England neesing exactly 500 runs to win the game off a minimum of 110 overs.

Anderson, Collingwood and Tremlett all picked up two wickets for the home side.

So far, they are 0/8 off 2.1 overs.

Re: 3rd Test: England vs India at The Oval

England on 56 for no wickets at end of day.

Dravid taking 96 balls for 12 runs has got to be a big negative. Of course, it looks for sure India will win this test series. I don't imagine any test side chasing total of 500 to win on last day. But it is quite possible that India won't win this match now due to that bad patch from Dravid.

Re: 3rd Test: England vs India at The Oval

The decision to not enforce follow on was taken by my namesake - Chandu Borde, manager of India. I have to say, I don't agree with that at all Chandu!

I believe that Dravid's batting was a smart tactic by the captain. Dravid deliberately batted slowly in order to use up some of the overs that England could have used in order to chase down the target score.

India were in big trouble at that time and someone needed to knuckle down and make sure the innings didn't end quickly. With Dravid there as the anchor, Ganguly was then able to score the bulk of the runs and then formulate a score that England would eventually have to chase later on.

Dravid managed to face 16 overs by himself which was time that England needed to make the chase. When Dravid was dismissed, the innings had some stability to it after looking very shaky early on. England now need 444 off 90 overs at almost five runs per over which is going to be very, very hard to achieve.

India are still a big chance to win this game, they just need to bowl how they did in the first innings and they will win. Dravid was clever to eat up some of those overs that the home side would have loved to face.

You're correct. However as I said before, Chandu Borde should've never taken such a decision to put India in that "big trouble" situation in the first place. This led to a lot of "negative cricket" being played by Dravid which I'm personally not a fan of. That's all is my point.

Re: 3rd Test: England vs India at The Oval

Lift your game England. No point batting slowly and losing the series. Just bat attacking and go for the miracle win instead playing out a boring draw or a disappointing loss.

Re: 3rd Test: England vs India at The Oval

They have a valid reason for wanting to play out the draw. I too want to see a tense run-chase but I'm sure the England Cricket Board would prefer their side not to sacrifice 2nd spot on the World Test Rankings. If they lose this match they move to 3rd. But a hot run chase would be nice.

fair enough then, i didn't realise that was at stake, however i know if it was Australia in that position they would definetely go for the win

They really don't deserve to be second after seeing this and the last test. They've been absolutely pantsed by India at home.

Regardless, England are 2/126 at lunch on the final day. Cook made 43 and Strauss scored 32. Kumble and RP Singh are the wicket-takers for the visitors.

374 runs still needed to win the game with 60 overs remaining. They won't get that. A shame that they didn't try and go for it.

Re: 3rd Test: England vs India at The Oval

Sreesanth breaks through and gets Vaughan to edge to Dhoni behind the stumps. 3/152 now. England have to bat for at least another 48.3 overs to earn a draw.

Re: 3rd Test: England vs India at The Oval

Collingwood falls but India's hops of winning are fading quickly.

England are 4/276, still requiring 224 runs to win. They won't get that though and the most interesting part now is whether they can survive till the end of the day.

Pietersen has moved to 87 runs and you'd think that if he stays there, England will achieve a draw.

Minimum of 23 overs remaining in the match.

Re: 3rd Test: England vs India at The Oval

Pietersen makes his hundred but then edges to Karthik at first slip. The Skunk is out for 101.

5/289 now and perhaps the door is still ajar for India to snatch victory.

Re: 3rd Test: England vs India at The Oval

It ends in a draw with England 369 for 6.

India wins test series on English soil 1-0. Is this the first time ever for India?
