Abbreviations and Cricketing Analogies

I thought i'd just make a post to put up a few abbreviations and terminilogies that i use from time to time in my posts and that i may use in future posts so incase you don't know what it means it'll save everybody asking. (Most of you may well know most of this anyway but for those of you who don't)::

For matches and format of matches played:

LOI('s) = Limited Overs' International(s)
ODI('s) = One Day Internations
LOC = Limited Overs' Cricket
DOD = Domestic One Dayers
FCM = First Class Match(es)
WC = World Cup
TST = Triangular Series Tournament
20(20)= Twentry20 International
SOM = Shortened Overs Match

There are some others for matches but they mainly apply to domestic cricket and i don't think they'll apply here or not until the forum grows a bit and has more members.

Here are some concerning overs, rates and goings on during a match:

OR = Over rate
RR = Run Rate; also knows as RPO = Runs Per Over
PRR = Progressive Run Rate
RRR = Required Run Rate
ARR = Aquired Run Rate
ROE = Rate Of Economy; also known as economy rate
ROS = Also knows as Strike Rate
WMO = Wicket Maiden Over
NB = No Ball
WD = Wide Delivery
LB = Leg Bye(s)

Here's a few concerning strokes and actions:

BOALD = Back Of A Length Delivery
DRILOW = Delivery Resulting In Loss Of Wicket
BSC = Baskward Square Cut
FDS = Forward Defensive Shot (BDD = Backward Defensive Drive)
BDS = Backward Defensive Shot (FDD = Forward Defensive Drive)
SPD = Short Pitches Delivery
MSY = Middle Stump Yorker
POM = Pull Over Mid-Wicket

Here's a few concerning dismisslas:

LBW = Leg Before Wicket
CB = Caught Behind
CITO = Caught In The Outfield
RO = Run Out
BC = Bowled, Clean
BDO = Bowled, Dragged On
HW = Hit Wicket
SO = Stumped Out
HTB = Handling The Ball
HTBT = Hitting The Ball Twice
OTF = Obstructing The Field

Here's a few others that don't have a specific catergory or the catergory isn't very big:

SU - Standing Umpire
TLU = Third Leg Umpire
MO = Match Official(s)
MR = Match Referee(s)
MI = Match Injuidactors
D/L = Duckworth Lewis
AM = Abandoned Match
TM = Tied Match
NR = No Result

There are others but i don't really think that they will aplly here or not just yet anyway. Basically if i use those abbrevations then that is what they stand for. If anybody else uses any others then do put them up here and not just cricketing analogies or terms, any abbreviations or specifications you use whilst posting and that way nobody will get confused.:)

Re: Abbreviations and Cricketing Analogies

Just a few on positions held by the players in respect of responsibility and authority:

HC = Head Coach
TC = Team Coach
GM = General Manager
C or CPT = Captain
VC = Vice Captain
WK or WKTK or WKT - KP = Wicket Keeper
GSMN = Groundsman
UMP = Umpire

Re: Abbreviations and Cricketing Analogies

Just thought i'd add a couple if others i've used which have caused some querries:

MOTM = Man Of The Match
MOTS = Man Of The Series

Funnily enough even though it is participated in by women the female game still uses the same awards rather than Woman Of The Match and Woman Of The Series.
