Australia won the second game fairly easily in the end but the game was pretty tight for most it. Shaun Marsh starred for Australia, scoring 110 as Australia were bowled out for 230. Cam White made 45 and Doug Bollinger chipped in 30 as Australia got past 200 after looking like only getting 170-odd. The partnership of 88 between Marsh and Bollinger is the highest 9th wicket partnership in an ODI by Australia.
Ajmad Shahzad and ChrisTremlett picked up three wickets for England with Michael Yardy and Tim Bresnan claiming two each in what was a good bowling performance except the for last 15 overs. Andrew Strauss said in the press conference after the game that he would have liked another seam bowler after having to resort to Jon Trott's gentle mediums at one point.
In reply, England lost regular wickets but managed to keep their noses in it before it all became too hard. Ian Bell and Jon Trott posted a pair of 32's and there were four or five other players who got starts but no-one could really go on with it which was what England needed. In the end, England were bowled out for 186, falling well short at the finish. Bollinger starred with the ball, taking 4/28 and Brett Lee picked up 2/39 with Smith and Watson claiming the other scalps. There were also two run-outs, including Yardy running himself out after a great pick up and direct hit from Watson.
So, 2-0 to Australia. The next game is at the SCG on Sunday.
