Not sure if there is much interest in this as not the best teams in the world are involved. But its good opportunity for the teams like UAE and Honk Kong or even Bangladesh to get some experience at the big stage.

Re: Asia Cup 2008

Pakistan are in a similar position to the one they were in the last match these two teams played. A 300+ score looks imminent.
Malik was dropped twice in the last over. India might pay heavily for this.

Re: Asia Cup 2008

India is playing extremely well. The required run rate has come down to just 4.5. They are almost 90 runs ahead of where Pakistan were at this stage!

Pity that Raina threw it away. Still a very good effort. Sehwag didn't throw it away though. Good hundred for him. I think he should have made one yesterday too.

Re: Asia Cup 2008

i think the result wud be different if Gul hadent of become injured. He's pakistans main strike bowler and he has always bowled well against India. but i think the pakistani batsmen cud of got more runs as they had wkts in hand. It wud always be tuff for pakistan to restrict india with only 2 seamers, iftikar and tanvir. I Hope gul is fit for the next round if he's not its a big blow for pakistans bowling attack. Also i would like to see pakistan play Mansoor Amjad a leg spinnning allrounder instead of fawad alam.

Re: Asia Cup 2008

I think the problem was Pakistan didn't get enough runs. Even if Gul had played they would have needed 330-350 due the kind of pitches these matches are being played. Malik retiring hurt was also hurt them bad and India wasn't made to pay for their poor effort in the field.
Pakistan need to win all their remaining three matches to make it to the final now so the availability of Gul is very important.

Re: Asia Cup 2008

damn mendis is on fire, him and murali bowling at opposite ends must be striking fear into opposing sides

Re: Asia Cup 2008

I haven't seen Mendis bowl much. I'm eagerly waiting for India's match against SL to see him and Murali in action(being taken apart by Indian batsmen :p). Both India and Sri Lanka are playing well but I think Sri Lanka have the advantage because their bowling lineup is better.

Re: Asia Cup 2008

mendis is such a freak especially his doosra which he flicks it from his middle finger. how could someone hold a ball with their index and 3rd finger on the ball with their middle finger of the ball, that guy is an excellent replacent for murali when he retires. Sri Lanka must have the most unorthodox players, Jayasuriya, Murali, Malinga, now mendis.

Re: Asia Cup 2008

Must win game for Pakistan today. They have a weak bowling attack but on flat pitches 300 is going to be scored anyway. The number of runs they score over 300 is going to decide the game.

Re: Asia Cup 2008

The Indian fielding is just terrible in this series. I thought all the youngsters were brought to improve the fielding but they are dropping simple catches and misfielding a lot. India should still win because the pitches are too flat.
These pitches are not good for cricket. 300 is not even a competitive total here. Teams should always bat second because its hard to know what will be a winning total.

Re: Asia Cup 2008

Brilliant century by Jayasuriya but now that he's out India is back in the game. They just need the wicket of Dilshan now to restrict Sri Lanka to a resonable score. I don't think Sri Lanka should get 300+ now.

Re: Asia Cup 2008

What the hell was Sehwag doing? He foolishly jumped out on just the second ball he faced from Mendis. He is not turning the ball much but the Indian batsmen are puzzled against him. Murali hasn't even bowled yet I dread to think how these batsmen will face him.

Added 1 minute(s) and 32 second(s) later...

5th wicket gone. India has no chance of winning now. :(

Re: Asia Cup 2008

Poor cricket by India. Sehwag threw his wicket away and Yuvraj and Raina just managed to miss straight deliveries. It was a master stroke to rest Mendis for the previous game. The Indians are finding it very hard to pick him up. Mendis still has six overs left and Murali hasn't even bowled yet! It seems that India has very little chance of winning the match.

Re: Asia Cup 2008

The 15 overs that are left between Murali and Mendis are the most important. They can afford to play it for 60 runs because the required rate is managable. But the way Uthappa is playing, it looks like he will get out the next ball. I dont have much hopes from India. His technique is faulty and its only a matter of time before Murali or Mendis dismisses him.

Re: Asia Cup 2008

i don't understand how mendis bowls and why it is so difficult to play. i hear he bowls leg spinners, offspinners, topspinners, everything with the same action - how does that work?
