Australia in New Zealand

Re: Australia in New Zealand

Clarke had one of the best knocks personally I have seen from him, but I only saw the highlights.

Also I absolutely love watching Katich make runs. The same with Hussey. As a matter of fact I also like watching Dravid or Kallis make runs. Katich scores at about 60 and does it in a way that takes it out of the bowlers and fielders. Great way to make runs. The only thing he doesn't do as well is not run people out, I've seen 5 times where he has run the other batsman out, but it is not an excessive problem. Everyone has their points to work on.

North just showed he can play under real pressure. Hope he can keep it up for his sake, for the team's sake I would probably want him to continue his run of bad form, the team balance is off with him there.

Hero of the day is Clarke. I originally despised Clarke, but he really has matured of late and my opinion has well and truly changed of him.

As for the Harris thing... shouldn't be in the side, but we will see how he goes.

I still can't get over Ponting's run out - he was set for a ton.

The ball was moving around quite a bit in the first session, through the air and off the wicket which was surprising. Martin also generated some good bounce.

Speaking of, anyone want to predict his score? I'll be shocked if he scores more than 2.

Haha, im backing another quack.
How can somebody get to that level and not have any idea what to do with the willow in his hand?
Is he the worst international batsman of all time? If not I challenge someone to find a worse one.

Re: Australia in New Zealand

Feel a bit for Ingram, he was sold down the river by his partner.

Great work by Johnson though, as Bill Lawry would say, "What a athlete".

Great bowling by the Australians, the pressure eventually resulted in the run out of Ingram via a soccer kick from Johnson to the stumps.

New Zealand 2 down at tea.

Re: Australia in New Zealand

Haddin shouldn't jump around throwing the ball up in the air when the batsman has obviously missed the ball.

edit - Taylor gone, nice catch North.

Re: Australia in New Zealand

Good day for Australia.

North bought up his 4th ton, well done to the big fella.

Good declaration by Ponting, surprised the Kiwi's and kept the game moving.

These days Australia needs more time to get 20 wickets. Declaring at 450 also puts pressure on the bowlers to perform well. We could have easily have batted until tea and got 500+ but I think doing it this way is the way to go.

Bollinger was the pick of the bowlers for me - bowled with good pace and swing, the ball he got Taylor with was a beauty. You can't do much when a ball rears at you off a good length - great catch by North as well.

Harris seemed a bit nervous at first, but his first wicket was a good ball that left the left handed batsmen slightly. Bowled some great pills to the right hander. Good start for him.

Johnson also bowled well, at times he even tailed the ball back into the right hander. It makes him a handful, some balls were going in, some were holding, some were even leaving the right hander.

Hauritz - did the into the wind job, bowled economically but really didn't look to dangerous. However he did beat the bat at times, he was also getting some very good drift.

North - came on late in the day with the light fading, bowled economically, one or two ripped past the edge but nothing much of note otherwise.

With Watson out Australia need to manage their bowlers well. Watson was a genuine 5th bowler capable of taking a few wickets, we don't want to work our bowlers into the ground.

All in all, a good day's play for Australia.

Re: Australia in New Zealand

Congratulations to North. Despite all the criticism and all the focus on his batting partner he still managed a fine knock.

Re: Australia in New Zealand

yes of course he's a god. That's what everyone posted on here a week ago wasn't it? North is not a god. He's a good batsman and if he's in form he deserves his spot.

Re: Australia in New Zealand

I've backed him from the moment he chalked up that debut ton.

I couldn't believe it when people wanted him dropped - this was a guy who scored 3 tons in his first year !!!!

I knew once the Punter gave him the once over in the nets then he'd be good to go. Ponting knows a thing or two about batting, he spotted a flaw in North's technique and rectified it. The chunky left hander then went out and blasted a ton.

Re: Australia in New Zealand

South Australia has a stronger attack than NZ, anyone who doesnt make a century at no6 against the Kiwis should retire
