Bangladesh in West Indies

A brief series this one, lasting only a month long. The tour actually got underway last weekend with West Indies A playing the Bangladeshis in a three-day game which ended in a draw but not before Bangladesh gave up a 53-run lead on first innings.

The biggest news has been the contract dispute between the WIPA and the WICB over contractual issues. This will be the fifth series in a row where the West Indies' players have played in without a set contract, something which is now no longer a minor issue accoring to the WIPA. This has lead to the very real threat of a boycott by the players which would throw the first test into chaos and could lead the Windies playing a second-string side. Hopefully this can be resolved and we see a full-strength West Indies side take to the park for the first test.

Re: Bangladesh in West Indies

Well, the boycott is going ahead, WICB have named a replacement squad to the one I posted above.

The new squad includes nine uncapped players, Dale Richards, Combined Colleges and Campuses' Ryan Austin, Chadwick Walton, Omar Phillips and Kevin McClean, Jamaica's Andre Creary, Guyana's Travis Dowlin, Grenada's Nelon Pascal and Kraigg Brathwaite, a prolific 16-year old batsman. Captaining the side will be Floyd Reifer who hasn't played test cricket since 1999, Darren Sammy will be team's vice-captain.

As far as the bowling goes, Tino Best is in the squad and will most likely lead the attack. Best hasn't played test cricket since 2005 and had a stint in the ICL last year. Kemar Roach has also been named along with Nikita Miller who has played 15 ODI's. David Bernard, the all-rounder, has made the squad also, his only test was in 2003.

Geez, what a farce. They really need to sort this out, this series could become a joke. West Indies have gone from firm favourites to outsiders now, this might be Bangladesh's best chance at winning a series.

Re: Bangladesh in West Indies

Most of day one was lost to rain. Bangladesh won the toss and batted, scoring 0/42 from 18.5 overs with constant rain interruptions hampering the day's play.

West Indies go into the game with seven debutants, Bangladesh have two.

West Indies XI: Dale Richards, Omar Phillips, Travis Dowlin, *Floyd Reifer, David Bernard, +Chadwick Walton, Darren Sammy, Tino Best, Nikita Miller, Ryan Austin, Kemar Roach

Bangladesh XI: Tamim Iqbal, Imrul Kayes, Junaid Siddique, Mohammad Ashraful, Raqibul Hasan, Shakib Al Hasan, +Mushfiqur Rahim, Mahmudullah, *Mashrafe Mortaza, Shahadat Hossain, Rubel Hossain

Re: Bangladesh in West Indies

2/77 at the moment are Bangladesh. Tamim Iqbal fell to Tino Best for 14 and Imrul Kayes was LBW to Darren Sammy for 33.

Been slow going all innings so far, Bangladesh are in no hurry. Run rate is 2.16.

Result: Bangladesh won by 95 runs
Series: Bangladesh lead 2-game series 1-0
Man of the Match: Tamim Iqbal

Only Bangladesh's second ever win in test match cricket although you could hardly say a third-string West Indies side was good opposition. Their first was against Zimbabwe four years ago. West Indies were on top after the first couple of days but fell away when they went to bowl a second time, Suddique and Iqbal set up the big target for the Tigers to defend with Mushfiqur and Shakib al Hasan add ing a few in the middle order.

Mahmudullah continued his good game with the ball taking five wickets and he and Shakib spun Bangladesh to victory. Only David Bernard put up any resistence for the Windies and was the only batter to score more than 20.

Second test starts on Friday.

Re: Bangladesh in West Indies

bangladesh have won the 2nd test quality performance from shakib 5 wickets in the 2nd innings to go with 3 in the first and then a quality 96 not out to finish it off with a massive six to finish his first test as captain. First ever series win for bangladesh and a whitewash at that.
