Bat and Trap

Has anyone ever seen this? I heard about it on the radio the other day and was intrigued.

Simply put, you hit a 'trap' which knocks a ball in the air which you then have to hit with a 'bat'. You can be caught out or bowled as well as scoring a run, if a certain criteria is met.

It's probably safe to call it a cousin of cricket in that there is a bowling side and a batting side but there is also an element of baseball in there as well.

Best bet is to have a look at the wiki page - here or here (some better photos at the second link).

looks interesting! looks like an old boys game though!

could be played better with our cricket bats and teach you to hit straight!

Re: Bat and Trap

I've had a go at this at a fair in West Yorkshire, England UK. It was called rat and trap there.
It requires lighning reactions. In the version I tried you had to launch the rat with one movement of the wrist forwards into the machine and then hit down on it when it appeared through a slot with the opposite movement of the wrist. More like a forehand and backhand at tennis.

It was really diffficult, but since your wrist was already in movement for the second phase you had a start of a trigger movement that helped a bit.
