Bat Brands.

The first image I held of cricket, was Mr Sunil Gavaskar, executing a drive, with a Duncan Fearnley cricket bat. The Duncan Fearnley bat, has had a mesmerizing effect ever since. I was equally impressed with the Gray Nicholas bats, because the Australian players, only played with those bats, it seemed to me. I believe Gunn and Moore was preferred in New Zealand, by their international players. I remember their use during the first series I watched India play there. There are many good bat brands in India, too, and they are numerous.

Got a Gray Nichols right now, had it for about three or four years at the moment. The bat before that was a County which had an awesome middle, loved that bat but got too tall for it. Had a Gunn and Moore before that and my very first bat was a Stuart Surridge.

Re: Bat Brands.

Nowdays don't most of the Australian players get custom bats from the small companies and just put other brand's stickers on them?

Re: Bat Brands.

some pros do do this.

if you like boutique bats and kit check out Willow Wizard for an awesome range of custom bats it is really becoming a widely used brand in melbourne.

Re: Bat Brands.

I've played with many bats over the years, I was lucky enough to receive a county sponsorship when I was a junior and found their bats to be fantastic. Right now though the only bat for me is the MRF wizard 400 modelled around B Lara. I have 2 of them and they are possibly the best bats I have ever played with. Their balance is superb and they are traditionally made as a lighter weight then alot of the other bats coming out of India these days. I would love to get a hold of one of the bats Lara was supplied with, because if the bats I have are brilliant his must be to die for.

Re: Bat Brands.

I have 5 bats, a Slazenger V900, a Duncan Fearnley Power, a Gray Nicholls Razor 500, a Puma Gilchrist and an MRF Wizard 400 XLE. My favourite is the V900 but I can't play with it cause Pup Clarke has signed it all the way down the meat, beautiful bat though that one. I play in matches with the Gilchrist.

Haha no this is not the case. Im pretty sure all of the brands that are paying players to use there brand have enough money to make them the best bats going around.

Re: Bat Brands.

I've got a 7 year old favourite Grey Nic, but for me nothing said cricket from the 80's than the old Grey Nic Scoop! :D

Many professional players get hand made bats to their specs and put the stickers of their sponsor on them. It is quite common within State and International cricket. I am not sure what makes you think this doesn't happen, but, it certainly does.

I admire your bats, but do you have a Duncan Fearnley? I believe, Duncan Fearnley is an institution, perhaps, like the Queen of England. I just mean, that Duncan Fearnley is a venerable British Cricket Brand. I knew about Grey Nicholls and Duncan Fearnley, before any other cricket brand.

Re: Bat Brands.

Well the bat says on the stickers on the both the rooves and flats 'Duncan Fearnley Power'. It's really old, I got it at a garage sale.

Re: Bat Brands.

There are bat brands in India like SG, which are as well regarded as any brand. If bats are comparable, then the brands complement each other. I would use one of the many excellent bats manufactured in India. The Indian Sports goods manufacturing industry, makes excellent equipment. I believe, that the Indian bats are probably the best.

i have 3 Fearnley "Batwings" which are the best bats i have used. Found the factory when i was playing in england and much better quality bats than the ones you can get in Australia which are imported from India & not england.

very very good bats and last for ages.

Re: Bat Brands.

Here is what I can tell you as a matter of fact.....

Matthew Hayden, Phil Jaques, Andrew Symonds and Simon Katich (even though sponsored by Kooka) all use bats made by Gray Nicolls head bat maker Stuart, can't remember he's last name but it sounds Russian. They are all made here in Melbourne.

Ricky Ponting, Michael Clarke and Brad Haddin both have there bats made in the same Indian factory, as all Kooka bats and Slaz bats come from the exact same Indian factories.

Adam Gilchrist has had he's bats made for some time by Sam Miller, the Puma head bat maker and suprisingly is not very fussy about what type of sticks he gets at all.

Stuart Clark and new Gunn and Moore signee Shane Watson both use GM bats made in the UK.

When looking at bats from the different brands it is interesting to note that most bats are made in India by only 2 or 3 factories. Serin Sports are pretty much the biggest (and best regarded) factory in India. All Kooka, Slaz and Woodworm sticks are made in India. Top range (everything over $600 or so) bats from Gray Nicolls and Puma are made here in Australia but the rest are all made in India.

A piece of advise when looking at buying a new bat is to have a good look at all the bats below the top range bats at you will usually find a bat or 2 that are as good if not better than the bats priced above it.

A very very good batmaker who I can definatly recomend is Julian Millichamp and Screaming Cat, they are very nice bats! But steet clear of Robin Younan and Impala, they are rubbish!

these blokes are all sponsored by gray-nicolls not kookaburra

Re: Bat Brands.

I have a Custom made Fisher bat made in Melbourne. Quality bat and at a much lower price then some other companies. What are peoples thoughts on Fisher Bats?

Re: Bat Brands.

Most players use bats made by the manufacturers. Nearly all are initially made in India, either by SG or Sondhi. They are "finished" by batmakers all over the world. I also remember Justin Langer, who used Kookaburra, on the "hot-spot" machine. When in infra-red, there were clearly Gray-Nic stickers which had been removed, but had left a print which was picked up by the specialist camera.

Re: Bat Brands.

Justin Langer for the last five or so years of he's career used bats made by Jullian Milliachamp.... always did ever since Jullian moved to WA after he moved our from the UK. To the best of my knowledge, and I'm 99% sure he never used a GN bat
