Champions Trophy: Bangladesh v Sri Lanka

The Champions Trophy is finally set to get underway, with Sri Lanka and Bangladesh starting things off in about 4 hours.

Considering that Zimbabwe is the hot pick for last place, it would seem that if Sri Lanka can win this opening match against Bangladesh, they're pretty much assured of advancing to the next stage of the tournament.

Re: Champions Trophy: Bangladesh v Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka 255/4 after 44.

They should be on their way to a total over 300. Tharanga opened with 105.

Re: Champions Trophy: Bangladesh v Sri Lanka

302/8 off their 50.

Should solidly win this game.

Re: Champions Trophy: Bangladesh v Sri Lanka

Bangladesh picked up a few wickets at the end there, but they should have limited Sri Lanka more than they did. They missed 2 chances for run outs and dropped a catch in the final 3 overs.

Bangladesh have scored 300 just once, and it was againat Kenya, so this total should be more than safe enough for the Sri Lankans.

Re: Champions Trophy: Bangladesh v Sri Lanka

Bangladesh 28/1 after 10 overs.

Despite only losing 1 wicket, this chase feels like it's over already, with Bangladesh scoring at a very slow rate. They're going to have trouble reaching 200, let alone 300.

Re: Champions Trophy: Bangladesh v Sri Lanka

Bangladesh 110/4 after 23. They've finally started batting and hitting some boundaries, but then they lost a few wickets. The score looks somewhat more respactable now, but this partnership will need to be superb if they want to steal a huge upset.

Re: Champions Trophy: Bangladesh v Sri Lanka

cleazer, wow you have really been ripping into Zim lately!

as for the current match, Bangladesh 1-116 after 24 overs. need a RR of 7.19, with it currently at 4.something.

Re: Champions Trophy: Bangladesh v Sri Lanka

Bangladesh 154/5 after 30 overs.
Thanks to the 5 wickets lost, I doubt Bangladesh will be able to double their score in the final 20 overs, but there has been some decent batting from them today. Their top three batsmen so far today are 19, 20, and 20 years old.

Re: Champions Trophy: Bangladesh v Sri Lanka

And as I type that, one of the old men on the squad, Mashud, is run out for 8. They may not reach 200 now.

Re: Champions Trophy: Bangladesh v Sri Lanka

219/7 after 43 overs.

Bangladesh need 12 per over to win.

Re: Champions Trophy: Bangladesh v Sri Lanka

226/8 after 45.

Decent appearance from Mortaza, and Saqibul just got his first ever ODI 50.

Re: Champions Trophy: Bangladesh v Sri Lanka

Bangladesh finish 265/9, Sri Lanka win by 37 runs.

An entirely respectable performance from Bangladesh, and it may have been a very different match if they could have scored any more than the pitiful 28 runs Nafees and Ashraful got in the first 10 overs.

Great batting by 19-year-old Saqibul, finishing 67 not out, and thanks to that, raising his ODI average to 77.5 after 5 matches.

Sri Lanka were never terribly worried though, thanks to those first 10 overs, and now they look entirely likely to advance to the next stage. The only real complaint anyone could have about Sri Lanka was the poor bowling form Fernando.
