Champions Trophy - New Zealand vs Sri Lanka at Mumbai (BS)

Back to the minefield once again for the match between New Zealand and Sri Lanka. New Zealand had an easy win over South Africa a few days ago thanks to a captain's knock by Stephen Fleming and a great all-round bowling effort. Sri Lanka'a 14-match winning streak ended at the hands of a depleted Pakistan.

This game will be played on the same pitch as the Australia vs West Indies game so we could see some reasonable scores unlike what we've seen for most of the tournament.

What can be certain is that this should be a an excellent match of cricket.

Game starts at 5pm AWST (2:30pm local time)

New Zealand XIV:
SP Fleming, NJ Astle, SE Bond, JEC Franklin, PG Fulton, MR Gillespie, BB McCullum, HJH Marshall, KD Mills, JDP Oram, JS Patel, SB Styris, DL Vettori, L Vincent (3 to be omitted)

Re: Champions Trophy - New Zealand vs Sri Lanka at Mumbai (BS)

New Zealand scored 165 in their 49.2 overs. So much for more high scoring.

Murali got 4 wickets, with Jayasuriya and Malinga each getting 2. Astle scored 42 for New Zealand, but Vettori was actually top scorer with 46 not out.

Re: Champions Trophy - New Zealand vs Sri Lanka at Mumbai (BS)

Things are really going Sri Lanka's way here. They're 45-0 after 6 overs. Jayasuriya and Tharanga are really looking comfortable out there. Bond has been too expensive to leave out there for much longer.

Re: Champions Trophy - New Zealand vs Sri Lanka at Mumbai (BS)

And as I type that, Jayasuriya is out, 45-1.

Re: Champions Trophy - New Zealand vs Sri Lanka at Mumbai (BS)

Sri Lanka 79-1 after 14. Vettori has come on early to bowl, and it's helped a little. Sri Lanka still well in control here though.

Re: Champions Trophy - New Zealand vs Sri Lanka at Mumbai (BS)

130-1 after 26 overs

It won't be too much longer now.

Re: Champions Trophy - New Zealand vs Sri Lanka at Mumbai (BS)

Wow, Patel got both Jayawardene and Tharanga in the same over!

Sri Lanka 135-3 after 26.5

Re: Champions Trophy - New Zealand vs Sri Lanka at Mumbai (BS)

Should be a cake walk for the Lankans to get the 31 runs needed for victory

Re: Champions Trophy - New Zealand vs Sri Lanka at Mumbai (BS)

Lankans: 162/3 after 34 overs at this stage its safe to say the game is over and the Lankans get another win. Congrats to the Lankans

Re: Champions Trophy - New Zealand vs Sri Lanka at Mumbai (BS)

166-3, Sri Lanka win by 7 wickets

Tharanga was top scorer with 56, Jayawardene contributed 48.
Patel was the best bowler for New Zealand. Bond gave up a lot of runs, considering it's a low scoring pitch.
