Cricket Drafts

el-capitano organised an Alltime Australian Test draft a few months ago, which was relatively successful. There was some talk at the time about arranging other drafts.

If you don't know what a draft involves, have a look at this thread.

If you'd be interested in participating in one or more of the above drafts, vote (or suggest another option below). Enough support and we'll put one on.

Re: Cricket Drafts

Up to the posters. With an all-time, all-countries draft you could probably increase the number a little - 10 would probably be a good cap at most, otherwise it gets pretty massive.

Can always do teams of 2 or 3 if there's a heap of interest.

Re: Cricket Drafts

For the entire World Drafts there's obviously enough excellent players to go around to increase it somewhat- but yeah you wouldn't want to drag it on for too long a time period. Maybe teams of two posters would be good if there's enough interest. :)

Re: Cricket Drafts

If there was alot of interest you could even run simultaneous drafts, would be interesting

But I wouldnt mind an Aussie ODI XI or isnt there enough quality around for that?

As for the options, a world test XI would be great fun, not sure of an England test XI, had so many players who did very little, Ian Bell would probably get a gig :p Although I suspect no one else would pick Patto :D

Re: Cricket Drafts

i want an all time australian ODI one!

if your gonna do a T20 one you gotta at least do that.

Re: Cricket Drafts

Do a World Test XI or a World ODI XI. If you want to do an Australian one, you could do one the Australia/New Zealand board.

Re: Cricket Drafts

doing the alltime test ones are a bit of a struggle due the the amount of players. just between australia and england alone there are 900 odd. and the australian draft showed over 80 players in contention. so thats at least 160 players from two countries alone.

then at the same time the other test playing nations werent playing back in the earlier days of cricket. therefore it isnt a fair comparison to say a current player who has to deal with a multitude of countries, a lot more games, easier batting and harder bowling conditions, tougher and a larger range of competition and much higher stakes. its hardly a fair comparison.

i would rather do best team of a certain era.

ODI ones are alright because its only been around 30-40 years, only 20 seriously.

Re: Cricket Drafts

but isn't the whole point of the exercise to wonder how a Murdoch or Grace might have gone against a side containing Grimmett, Walsh and Lillee?
plus i don't think that you're going to get enough interest in most periods to make it a goer- you might like your chances with the 1950's but somebody who thinks that cricket only really started when the Waugh twins were born is not likely to participate in something that they can only look foolish at.
and though i don't want to sound too snobbish about it- it would be a good exercise if people actually had to learn something about the earlier players and what they had to contend with. we are all on here enjoying the Ashes but how many of you actually know when the first Ashes series took place?

Re: Cricket Drafts

yes i know the comparison thing is what is to be aimed for, its just that i myself wouldnt be able to compare the two in my own head because of the thought.

you also would have to be a historian because there are some players that were very important but have been forgotten.

i was angry that i missed the chance to do that last draft, and i have a good knowledge of past players back to the 1900s, but now that i think of it i wouldnt have been able to do it. i would have said that bradmans average may have been closer to 60 these days or maybe 130. and i would have put a batsman like hayden at the top because of his ability to take the game away, but i havent personally seen some of the batsman back then to see if they had that same ability. i will do ones that are a bit shorter time frame, like the ODI ones, but not ones spanning a hundred or more years im afraid. or maybe i will. im not sure.
