Derbyshire sign Rogers as cover

Derbyshire continue to bolster their squad with the signing of Chris Rogers, the Western Australia batsman. He has plenty of county experience including a previous stint at Derbyshire and spells at Leicestershire and Northamptonshire and will provide back-up for Mahela Jayawardene in two blocks.

Rogers will start the season as Jayawardene is involved with the Indian Premier League and the Sri Lankan captain is then away again on international duty for Sri Lanka from mid-July.

Good signing especially as cover for Jayawardene, rogers is meant to be one of many great aussie players.

With so many good overseas stars, it is no wonder the standard of County Cricket in England is so high.

What happens if you take away the overseas element though, that's my biggest concern.

I think that with one or two per team, they raise the level of competition in the long term whilst keeping the focus on the national talent.

It wouldn't be so bad if it was only one or two though. Look through the squads, some teams could field an oversea's XI. It's wrong, whatever happen to bringing up youth talent?

They're only one or two overseas per county it's the kolpaks that ruin the game overseas players enhance the game.

its a bit weird though that so many overseas players join in county cricket yet very few english players join overseas clubs during your winter. i think cricinfo covered the topic not so long ago.
