DVCA:Under 16'1 banter 2009/10

Re: DVCA:Under 16'1 banter 2009/10

G'day all,

I would like your comments on an observation of mine. Oh, and I am not trying to rub anything into anyone's face here. I am genuine about the enquiry. This year in the North East Metro (Falcons) Dowling (U16) there appears to be a disproportionate number of HDCA players as compared to DVCA players in the team. When I look back at the team compositions over a number of seasons I get the following results.

SPECIFIC (current) PLAYER GROUP
U14 2006/07 - 3 HDCA 10 DVCA (would expect these numbers)
U14 2007/08 - 5 HDCA 8 DVCA (Best year results wise I think - 3 wins?)
U16 2008/09 - 3 HDCA 10 DVCA (would expect these numbers)
U16 1009/10 - 7HDCA 6 DVCA - current team -

UNDER 16 AGE GROUP
U16 2006/07 - 3 HDCA 10 DVCA (would expect these numbers)
U16 2007/08 - 4 HDCA 9 DVCA (would expect these numbers)
U16 2008/09 - 3 HDCA 10 DVCA (would expect these numbers)
U16 1009/10 - 7 HDCA 6 DVCA current team -

Given the serious size/mass of the DVCA compared to the HDCA, what do people make of the situation that for the first time (I think), HDCA players outnumber DVCA players. Why would this be so? How do you think this side will perform?

Now I am not looking for answers that talk up or talk down any individual players! I am looking for your thoughts on the overall situation from a team perspective. Since I think that is the real meat of the situation.

Looking forward to your input! :)

Well onemoreover, I think generally the rep teams have balance their squads from each league depending on the amount of kids both leagues/the amount good enough to try out. This year seems odd though, as with the introduction of Camrea and Boro' come more players, the league has chosen more HDCA players when clearly some of the blokes if they played in the Valley would find it much harder.

Perhaps the selection panel on Falcons has a biased view that both leagues must be equally represented, or simply that they've picked certain kids for another reason (which we all know has happened before). All in all it shouldn't really be something that should hit home, because under 16 rep cricket isn't taken all that seriously, nor is the better quality players often picked, which affects its reputation and seriousness. Well thats my view.

And Mill park players, thanks for wasting the last few minutes of my life reading through the last few pages of dribble/self adoration. May I suggest you hit the nets instead?

trent groom is a gun he started off like this last year and just made stacks of runs against the good teams, he made over 500 runs last year, top scored in his division, and took out the average in 16 1's TEAL and played 2 games in the 1's and almost won the average.

Your not to bad yourself Aaron

Thanks for your opinion!
Acouple of things though...........

a) "clearly some of the blokes if they played in the Valley would find it much harder" - this is clearly an assumption since most of those chosen would fit into the "valley" no probs. Some degree of confirmation of this are Monty's U17 team (same DVCA U16 premiers list from last season) in the HDCA. They appear to be a good side, but are so far are having to work hard for results. I close win so far and will possibly lose their 2nd game tonight. Yep early days I admit.

b) "because under 16 rep cricket isn't taken all that seriously" - agree that not getting picked is no real big deal, many deserving player will miss out simply due to numbers etc. However Pathways is, I believe, regarded as the premier junior rep carnival. From that point of view I am sure the organisers take it seriously. After all why would they waste that effort. I would also question if that view is out there in the DVCA, is that why the North East Metro have from a team perspective, performed relatively poorly in the past? I certainly don't think any of the juniors in the HDCA would look at it from this angle. They would regard it as an honour to be picked or even just to have the opportunity to try out.

c) "nor is the better quality players often picked, which affects its reputation and seriousness" - do you mean better players now or players who have the potential to develop into "better" players in the future? I am not so sure all is as black and white as it sometimes appears.

Anyway thanks for your thoughts. Good stuff.
