is harmission going to play in the first test? i heard that he got injured yet again.

Hasn't proved he's bowling well. It's unlikely he will as he isn't going to bowl in this match.

Re: England v Sri Lanka

Thats the end of that. Guess it would only be fair for Jayasuria to pick up 3 wickets so that takes over a 100 in tests.

Re: England v Sri Lanka

i read recently that fernando was going to play despite ankle injury. i think only murali will be a threat for england the rest of the bowlers are nothing special and with fernando in the side english batsmen should have a good time if they can hold one end up against murali.

Re: England v Sri Lanka

there is some rain around which might yet save the england from loosing. wind is picking up and clouds are going darker, i will miss jayasuria.

Re: England v Sri Lanka

Ravi simply has to be in the team. What a player! Top scored today while the rest of the team whimpered and collapsed. Not too bad with the new ball either collecting a lovely 32/2. Hoggy bowled beautifully to get 5 wickets.

The batting still seems a bit of a worry with kp not getting in form but im sure he'll be fine in the series.

Seems like the pitch must have done a fair bit if both sides got rolled over like that!Let's hope we get a good session in the middle tomorrow.

Re: England v Sri Lanka

From what I've read it seems like the pitch quickened up overnight. The ball was moving yesterday only a bit lower and a lot slower.

Hoggard is a certainty to come back in for the first test, although at the moment it looks like either Harmison or Anderson will miss out due to fitness rather than form.

England should have enough to win this game, KP should move up the order as he badly needs time in the middle to find some form.

Re: England v Sri Lanka

Ouch, Prior takes one to the neck from Fernando. At least he was alert enough to stop the ball rolling onto the stumps.

Re: England v Sri Lanka

In the end a good win for England and Anderson was able to bowl (ok, it was only one over).

KP got some time in the middle, Cook is looking in form and we have competition for places. You would have to say that things look good from an England point of view.

I would go with Bopara over Shah for the first test - anyone else got thoughts on this?

Re: England v Sri Lanka

Woo, got through to tea with Prior and Bell still in. Just need to last another 2 hours although that will more realistically be 60 maybe 90 minutes.

Bopara in for me.Seems to be in form with the bat and can do a good job with the ball aswell as been an excellent fielder.Sri Lanka's pace attack doesn't faze me too much it's just the Murali factor if we play him well then we can win.

Re: England v Sri Lanka

Game on for Sri Lanka again with the loss of Prior - England were looking comfortable to some extent.

As Fergie puts it - squeaky bum time for England. Personally, I'd put Hoggard in before Sidebottom in this situation.

Re: England v Sri Lanka

I would give my vote to Bopara as well. Not much to choose in the batting between the two but Bopara gives an extra option with the ball, which looking at our pace attack may be needed. (not saying they're rubbish, just a bit fragile!)

Re: England v Sri Lanka

That's not a bad point but doesn't Shah turn his arm over from time to time? Also, England could call on KP and Vaughn if they were really in the mire in terms of bowlers.

Re: England v Sri Lanka

I missed the post Lunch session, but it seems that England played really well during that time. Sri Lanka are just two wickets away from a victory. They seem the favorites at the moment. Just 15 overs are remaining so England can still save the game if they keep Murali out.

Re: England v Sri Lanka

i think srilanka will win because of murali and sangakkara there top players are very dangerous......odi was easier because murali was not playing....but in test i think they will lose.

Re: England v Sri Lanka

england are in a lot of trouble they need to play another 10 overs. sidebottom was very unlucky. there was a big inside egde.

Despite the might of the two you mentioned there seems to be a far bit of tension in the team which has to work in Englands favour.

England will win this series 1-0, with 2 very hard fought draws, Murali will be a big threat, as always, but one man can't win a series.

As to the other issue, for me it has to be Shah. The better batsman and the man in waiting. He plays spin well and I back him to average 45+ if he plays in all 3 tests.

Re: England v Sri Lanka

dont forget you will play srilanka at home....they are very strong at home i dont think england can win the series....only if they drop vaas or malinga to get fernando in the team then england can win the series.

Re: England v Sri Lanka

Game over and I can go to bed for an hour lol.

A fair fight back by England but the loss of early top order wickets cost them dearly. If we'd had one more proper batsman then we may have sneaked it. Even scoring an extra 40 runs in the 1st innings would have changed the game.

Re: England v Sri Lanka

Looks like Harmison is fit to be considered for the first test but I just don't think they'll go with him.

Sidebottom, Hoggard, Panesar are certain starters with Anderson taking the 4th bowling spot?

Re: England v Sri Lanka

All over for England. It was a very entertaining Test match. England could have done with a bit of luck going their way. Bell played very well, was probably beaten by the 2nd new ball not spinning as much as he anticipated. A historic win for Sri Lanka with Murali breaking the world record and Jayasuriya's retiring in the same match. Sangakkara should be the man of the match; his innings changed the match on his head.

Re: England v Sri Lanka

sri lanka played better cricket from the the 2nd innings of the match. sidebottom was very unlucky with both bat and ball though. bell's batting was good in both innings.

Re: England v Sri Lanka

this was an awesome match. probably the only entertaining test in a while. the match was with england on the first day then sri lanka bounced back murali taking wickets on the second day. england got a good lead on the third day but with sangakkaras 150, sri lanka turned the tables. then england bounced back again with bell and prior playing so well only to fall against murali with the second new ball.

Who will open batting instead of Andrew Strauss?

Micheal Vaughan will take his spot.

Got to be really he's been bowling well all year and deserves to be in there on his performances. If it was possible i'd send Harmison off to a local club game to get some more overs under his belt.

Re: England v Sri Lanka

good match, had up and down from day1 but the better players in sri lanka took the edge. sidebotom was unlucky that was a big edge onto the legpads.

looks like being a good series so i am looking towards the next game

Re: England v Sri Lanka

Bopara gets the nod and Harmison misses out. Wise moves by the England bosses, hard choice but they had to be made.

As much as I love Harmison, you have to question his state of mind at time as much as his body.

Re: England v Sri Lanka

Sidebottom was absolutely robbed! We were unlucky to lose the match but just didnt apply ourselves battingwise. Ravi Bopara batted well in the second innings for someone on test debut.

England need to go out all guns blazing in the next game, an onfire harmison would be useful :).

Come on England!

Re: England v Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka to bat, I fancy an early wicket then a 150 odd partnership before the second.

Lot of work here for England, need to get into Sri Lanka early doors, won't be easy batting on days 3,4 and 5.

Re: England v Sri Lanka

I'm not kidding, my college work totally stopped today, especially the Bell/Prior bit, it was facinating.

Re: England v Sri Lanka

seeing that they have chosen to bat it must be a flat track. good opportunity for sri lanka will want to put the bad tour of australia behind them and get a huge score in the first innings.

Re: England v Sri Lanka

I really thought we had saved the match but then Murali find something extra with the new ball. Sidebottom was robbed but then again if the top order had done their job it wouldn't have mattered so much.

No Hoggard for the next test so it's a chioce out of Broad, Harmison or Swann. Each have their pros and cons but I guess England will go with Harmison.

Jayasuria out, will I be proved correct?

Re: England v Sri Lanka

i heard from the commentary that the wether is not good in colombo so 1 or 2 days can be washed out.....its bad news for england because then thy wont get chance to win the series if the next match is draw.
