Favourite Fielding Position

As it says, just where do you like to field?

Myself, fine leg so I can have blow between overs or after that somewhere in the action, so slips, cover or mid off (so I can chat to the bowler if they need advice etc).

Re: Favourite Fielding Position

Mid-off or covers for me.

Covers because - I like to dive and stuff to save the occasional boundary on the off side and I feel that batsmen play more on the off side than the leg side (That is not true for every batsman, but generally, that is the case especially if the bowler is bowling about or just outside the off stump).

Mid-off because - I'm mainly a bowler myself and always like to have a chat with the other bowler, giving him my advice if I notice something about the batsman, trying to suggest various things if the bowler isn't exactly having an off day with his performance.

Re: Favourite Fielding Position

Depends what side I am playing for. For my club side I like to be in the action, so I'll go at point or if I'm captain I'll go mid-off. For the Island I'll go mid-off or mid-on usually.

Re: Favourite Fielding Position

Square leg for me - the shorter the better. I'm a goalkeeper when I play football, so my reactions are fairly sharp (on average between 0.25-0.3 seconds) and I've taken a few spectacular catches there. I only do it for the glory really. ;)

Re: Favourite Fielding Position

Mid off or mid on mostly. I like the view and I have only fielded in those positions ever. So I am usually positioned at mid off. I also stand at short leg at times because I have good reflexes and generally no one else is ready to stand there.

Ha, in the changing room

Personally I'm a gully man myself. I took a pretty sharp catch there, on the last game, and I've made a few handy saves. I also like being either silly mid-on/mid-off or covers, because I like to run

Re: Favourite Fielding Position

Short cover, cover, gully, yeh. Centre Half Bench. Nah short cover, to a great catch there and a few great stops.

WHERE'S SHORT COVER. YOU DIDN'T PUT SHORT COVER.

Re: Favourite Fielding Position

Behind the Stumps all day long! I keep for our second team and captain the Sunday Warriors! i would not want any other way! :cool

Re: Favourite Fielding Position

Mid-Wicket or Covers for me. I like being involved as much as possible. Alternatively, late in a game I enjoy sweeping a boundary - plenty of running and a possibility of a catch if they're slogging. I'm pretty quick, so I get to save a few boundaries if anything gets past the circle fielders.

Re: Favourite Fielding Position

I don't really have a favourite, I field where I'm told when I'm told. I guess fine leg because I like bowling but I've put mid off because I've fielded well there in the past.

Re: Favourite Fielding Position

mid on, covers, point and mid wicket are all good ones for me

but for some reason i love going silly mid on... dunno y... took 2 catches there last season.. and a handy run out..

Re: Favourite Fielding Position

I field near the boundary at long on or deep mid wicket. I can throw a long distance with good accuracy so its not a problem.

Re: Favourite Fielding Position

Slips, point or midwicket when not bowling. When in a spell preferably fine leg or something easy and no running lol!

Re: Favourite Fielding Position

 I see no-one has gone for Silly Point or Short Leg yet. I only know one guy that loved to field in really close - and he was a former international hockey goalkeeper.
