Re: Geelong Cricket '08/'09(gca/bpca)

On last years form, i reckon Loftie would struggle to make it, with maybe Yelland taking his spot. If you're picking on past achievements, Lowery would be in, and captain!

1. G.Kelson. (great opener)
2. B.Smiljanic (hitting power)
3. G.Talarico (class)
4. B.Hauenstein (best in league)(c)
5. S.Loftus (workhorse)
6. D.Hughes (good allrounder)
7. M.Kelson (w/k)
8. C.Bambury (************)
9. T.Agg (left arm...wkt taker)
10. B.Tsitas (only spinner... prem capt)
11. G.Harper (pace line and length)

Stiff not to make it would be B.Allen and last years torquay pommie.

this team is subject to change.

if we are talking about Dream Team this season, then you would have to take out T.Agg as he is at Geelong, and take in B.Anderton. Even Harp's if he was only going to play 2's would not be picked, so would have to be replaced with possibly a Marsland to lift !! I am not sure if Gareth Yelland has the quality to make this side just yet. Also he may be pretty old but you cannot take away what Alf Clark does with the bat, he is stiff to miss.

Re: Geelong Cricket '08/'09(gca/bpca)

oh, and if Fergy plays in the GCA in any division he would be a handy 12th man !! And to keep our BPCA guys happy Jas Murray would be quiet handy to replace one of the all rounders.

always like to see how the young kids are going.
would be interesting to see an u25s team against that lot, they all seem to be over 25.
any thoughts on the GCA's/BPCA's best u25 team?

na didn't happen to play in the granny mate, was a good effort by south to knock east belmont off in the semi... don't think anyone expected that.

east belmont have so much depth, surely the envy of all other clubs in the region?

Yes east are a great club and have alot of great people behind the club and it took a club like south barwon to show that u can recruit and build from the bottom without paying players. as in east belmont have never payed players and never will.

Re: Geelong Cricket '08/'09(gca/bpca)

ok, have to be:
  1. G Kelson
  2. Smellie
  3. G Talarico
  4. C Bambury
  5. The Hornet (c)
  6. A Clark
  7. M Kelson (wk)
  8. D Hughes
  9. B Anderton
  10. B Tsitas (vc)
  11. A Marsland
  12. Fergie (12th)

Would be a long list of unlucky players which could actually come into the line-up depending on how their season goes. The two joeys pick-ups in Morgan and Fanning are unknown at GCA level, and also the Chapelley pick-up at West. Looking at all the players we have available in the league, seriously, imagine the damage these sides could do at full strength. And not the 70 blokes they went through last country week carnival.

Re: Geelong Cricket '08/'09(gca/bpca)

I'll have a quick go at picking some names who could make the team, add some as you please.

Rob Condy - Manifold
Adam Marsland - City
Jeremy Babb - South Barwon
Sean O'Neill - Thomson
Mitchell Herbison - Barwon Heads
Mitch Troy - North Geelong/Shore
Becker Nguyen - East Belmont
Mark Hanley - East Belmont
James Bottomley - Newtown
Dean Riches - Thomson
Troy Nolan - St Joeys

i understand i have probably missed alot of people but anyone feel free to throw some names up of the best u25s going around, and do you think the GCA Country Week team would play a warm up match against a best u25s side? I understand they would probably win easy, especially if they get there best team on the park but it would be good for the young guys to have a go!

Thoughts on the idea guys?

Marsland i wasn't impressed with. What's the left armer at West?

Re: Geelong Cricket '08/'09(gca/bpca)

Josh Vrbovski or something like that. Based on the overs that Talarico bowled last season for West I reckon that he was totally wasted. Would need to bowl more overs for him to be an option. I suppose Rhys Zannoi would be an option from Leopold if he was switched on.

i just enjoy following the cricket these days playing with the kids (not in a michael jackson way ;)) and waking up sore and stiff on a sunday :D
i do agree with you that you need to build from the bottom up and there are a few clubs doing that which is good to see.
i do however believe that it is ok to pay a few decent players, not huge money, provided they are going to contribute to the club and not just the 1st XI. I know at east Belmont that there tradition and profeesionalism warrants them not to pay players as players will play there because of there success but clubs such as AT, Manifold, Thomson, St Peters, Newtown are trying to build again, so a little bit of money spent on a good recruit is warranted in my opinion.

but as usual time will tell how successful the winter signings will be at their respective clubs.

If Tala didn't bowl he would be in that team as just a batsmen, he is class and when he is on there aren't to many bowlers who can or will rattle him
