Harder to bowl left handed then right ??

Hi i am a left arm bowler who either opens the bowling or comes on first change for u 15s and u18s at my club i would say im quite a quick bowler but tend to bowl quite waywerds at times i was wondering if it is just me or do all left armers find it alot harder to bowl swing, seem and line and length. I asked are left handed pro about it and he just said it was along time ago when he did it.

The reason i made this thread was i want to change my variation with my trade ball being the outswinger to the right hander with variations of inswinging yorkers and the odd bouncer. I have been working on it for a wile now and have had to slow my speed down A LOT just wanted to know your opinions on what to do ? ty

Re: Harder to bowl left handed then right ??

I don't think it is any harder to bowl left handed, except for some reason some left handers seem to have a mental block about it. There is certainly nothing in terms of bio-mechanics or physicality that stops a left armer from doing whatever a right hand bowler does.

The only real difference is the lines they'll bowl due to angles etc.

Re: Harder to bowl left handed then right ??

umm im not a lefthand bowler but you should watch nathan bracken bowl he gets alot of swing in and out very great bowler

Re: Harder to bowl left handed then right ??

any tips on how to bowl the swing though like hand positions ?

Re: Harder to bowl left handed then right ??

It's mostly to do with the wrist position. I'll try to post up an example tomorrow, when I can grab a camera or get some photos from my phone.

Re: Harder to bowl left handed then right ??

As mentioned above, its kind of a mental thing for a left hander. This is due to it being "unnerving," bowling to right handers. Left handed batters are still rarely than right handers, so its not as big a thing for Right hand bowlers.

Swing wise, you want a slight bend in your wrist, two fingers together along the seam and aim for first slip. Thats the basic way i do it!

Re: Harder to bowl left handed then right ??

I think it is harder to be a left handed bowler than a right handed bowler because you have to perpetually angle the ball across the right hander rather than more naturally bowling it in a straight line.

Re: Harder to bowl left handed then right ??

i agree with manee, at my club there is only one other left handed batsman to bowl to so you have to get used to bowling with the left handed angle

Re: Harder to bowl left handed then right ??

That's true manee but if a left handed bowler can angle it away and curve it back in then that's very hard to face.

Re: Harder to bowl left handed then right ??

Very hard to get that delivery on the off rather than leg stump though.

Re: Harder to bowl left handed then right ??

yes thats what i meant when i bowl waywerds its down leg side thats why if i could bowl swing more efficiently then it would be a lot easier to claim wickets also ill try to get a video of my bowling somehow cause i have alot of problems with my action even though i am quick any ideas how i get a video though ?

Re: Harder to bowl left handed then right ??

My bowling is somewhat similar to Andrew Flintoffs, but slower. I have that foot shuffle thing, and keep the ball out infront of me on approach and then pull it back under my shoulder almost, then windmill round.

I always find without swing, that leg stump is the aiming marker naturally, its annoying as i want it on off every time!

Re: Harder to bowl left handed then right ??

I don't think it's inherently harder to be a left handed bowler than to be a right handed one tbh, it's just different circumstances. In fact, it's something of an advantage in my view because batsman are usually unused to facing left arm bowlers. The highest wicket taker for my school team is a left handed swing bowler, he's not the best bowler in the side technically but the fact he bowls at a different angle gives the batsman something new to deal with.

Re: Harder to bowl left handed then right ??

yer i took 4 wickets today for 8 runs but that was on a wet wicket so i got alot out of the conditions

Re: Harder to bowl left handed then right ??

While I don't think it's any 'harder' to be a left handed bowler, I would suggest that it may be slightly easier for left handed bowlers (who bowl primarily at right handers) to fall into some pretty bad habits.

I only say this because left handed bowler who 'fall away' or have poor front arm action are often rewarded when they 'push' the ball across the right handed batsman. The more often young bowlers get wickets or dot balls with bad technique, the more likely they are too think everything all a-okay

But apart from that, I don't imagine there any phsyiological disadvantages to being a south paw!

Re: Harder to bowl left handed then right ??

ive changed my run up so as i know come in at an angle and seem to be helping me a little
