Help with RA Medium Bowling

I'm a 15 year old kid and I'm looking to get my pace up, I would like to be quick, preferably quick for my age and fast when I grow older and stronger. Although, to get to this, I need help with my run up. Right now, I'm being told by people that my run up isn't very smooth and rhythmic, it's more flat footed and apparently I run "weird". How can I fix my run up, like being able to have a much smoother, more balanced and economical approach toward the wicket? I understand that a much better run up will allow me to bowl quicker and gain a lot more power through the crease.

I'm also looking for some exercises that will strengthen the muscles used to send the ball down to the batsman faster. One more thing, I wouldn't say I'm fit, but I'm 1.86m tall and weigh 88kg. So I have the height to extract good bounce out of the pitch, I just need pace.

If anyone can help me with this, thank you very much.

Welcome to forum!

Run ups are very much a personal thing I find. The conventional approach is to run up in a straight line in order to help bowling lines. Length of run up is really up to the individual - one way is to work backwards from the crease and see where you feel like you should bowl - although I'm sure others can recommend other ways to pace it out.

It should be noted that a run-up is calculated to provide somewhere between 10 and 20% of the 'speed' for bowling but this is not the same for everyone, so whilst a good run helps it's not the be all and end all.

As for fitness for bowling, check out the fitness thread- it has some great tips there. Also the following links are well worth a look:

Do you run up like you would run normally?

Secondly, I have found that boxing against a heavy bag is extremely useful for strength and have seen a noticeable difference after a week of five minute sessions per day.

Well, I wouldn't exactly say I run in quickly like Brett Lee for example. It's more of a McGrath type run in.

Re: Help with RA Medium Bowling

i think dat people dat sprint in with a really long run up is just stupid and a waste of my time wen waiting 4 da bowler 2 even get near da wicket, let alone da ball get 2 me but a run up is essential so make it individual and do wat u want 2 do, but da ball itself is da most important thing of all so make sure u can still bowl as good as u usually do.
