India v India, why just them?

India Blues (the first team) played India Greens (the B team). the first tema won, no surprise by 266 runs i think, and bowled the B's out in only 26 overs.

From the highlights, it seemed like there was a decent crowd (15,000). Why haven't any of the other top countries done this? i would think Australia in particular would draw a decent crowd in a city that usually doesn't get ODI's or tests.

I think it’s a fantastic idea! Get the best cricketers in a country to have a series to brush up on their skills before a Champion’s Trophy Competition while giving the Barhat Army something to warm them up for the ICCC Trophy – at home!

Players competing against their countrymen and in some cases, their mentors is a sure fire way to keep the ‘oldies’ on their toes and the ‘young-guns’ chomping at the bit for their chance to take on the Country’s greatest.

Has this been done in other countries previously, and if so, why isn’t it still being done? I mean, if in Australia they had been doing this every season for the past 5 years, surely the likes of Hussey would’ve been noticed and picked up years earlier!

I think that every country (depending on the amount of suitable players that are available) should hold a similar competition prior to any major series, the best performing players going on to represent their country – this would increase the player base for selection and reduce the chance of outside influence towards the selectors and ensure that the best national team would be representing their nation as their actions would speak louder than their words.

I was chatting to someone on the Testskill chat facility ( I had a small punt on India blue whilst I was there) about this, they reckon that it had to be done in India because of the selection bias, is it that bad in India?

threads merged.

its sounds like a good idea in certain countries. it works in India, i see it working in Australia too. but other countries- would people go see an A team play the main team? i am not too sure. perhaps in very small venues they could generate some income.
