Intel's Nehalem - The giant strikes back!

Hi guys.

I don't know how many of you follow technology, but this is pretty big news. Intel, the current CPU giant, released its seventh generation of processors, codenamed Intel Nehalem and officially called Core i7

The new processors are on a completely new design, well that means their chip design. They are true quad cores, and are built like to be one.

These new puppies offer tremendous speed boosts to everyday applications too and you can laugh at their ridiculous amount of power. Their number crunching power is pretty solid and well they are like kinda a revolution for Intel products.

To study the architectural differences, head over to this guru3d.com review, and also check out the performance ratings, here : Intel Core i7 920 and 965 review

What do you think? Do you agree with the viewpoint that computing power goes ridiculously cheap every year? Would really love to hear everyone's opinon of this even if they're not tech geeks.

Re: Intel's Nehalem - The giant strikes back!

been in the game a long time and i'm not complaining about today's prices over the prices in the 90's. mass production and reduced labour costs have made this possible, bring it on i say.

i remember paying $200 for 4MB of RAM in 1994, whereas I would most likely get 4GB for cheaper today.

by the time these Core i7's come out and the price drops to a reasonable level, i should be in the market for a new PC, so I will keep an eye out... been pottering along with a socket 478 P4 1.7Ghz since 2001, so i'm itching for something a little faster but i want to run it into the ground first and then buy something which is going to be solid for another 8 years.

I know that Intel are a great brand but I find that if they go too far with the technology, all computers are going to be really expensive and to make matters worse will increase the power surges that we already have.
I think that it is best just to keep it simple and you should be ok with what you get.

Oh and Compaq is awesome. :D

How can you say they are really expensive? In fact, Intel is the company that forced AMD's horrible pricing of the Athlon X2's to come down, by bringing out Core 2 Duo!

I'm really waiting for Core i7 to become cheaper. I would, however only consider it once it gets some cheap chipsets made for it, in addition to processors.

Hmm, I agree, but what my point was that earlier technology was a luxury, now its a need and infact one with which people can't live. I think it has brought a great chnage in the way people live.

Dam it, I thought my LGA775 motherboard would last forever!
When did you buy it? I don't think you have anything to worry if it was between the last year. Penryn is still going strong and it'll be another 2 years easily till Nehalem as a platform becomes affordable.

Re: Intel's Nehalem - The giant strikes back!

Best Thing Intel ever did was get into bed with Apple. If you want to go fast Ditch Windows!!!!!!

i'm off to take cover!

Re: Intel's Nehalem - The giant strikes back!

If you really want to go faster, use vLite, reduce bloat of Vista, and you're off to take better cover!

Re: Intel's Nehalem - The giant strikes back!

If you want to go even faster than that, spend 3 days compiling a gentoo install from source!
