Intercontinental Cup: Kenya v Namibia (and UAE) at Sharjah

Kenya's home match has been moved to UAE for obvious reasons.

The standings say it all. This is a match between the teams currently in first and second place. The top two qualify for the final, and while Kenya expects to stay in the top 2, Namibia is favored to be passed by the likes of Ireland or some other European Associate.

That said, if Namibia can get some points out of their match with Kenya, they'll give their chances a huge boost!
Code:
               P W D L Pts
Kenya 2 2 0 0 40
Namibia 2 2 0 0 34
Netherlands 3 2 0 1 34
Ireland 2 1 1 0 29
Canada 4 1 0 3 26
Scotland 3 1 2 0 26
UAE 4 1 1 2 23
Bermuda 4 0 0 4 6

Kenya has brought a very strong squad which includes most of their top players, while Namibia will likely have the same team that beat UAE a few days ago.

Kenya won the toss and elected to field.

Namibia 130-4.

Re: Intercontinental Cup: Kenya v Namibia at Sharjah

Well that was a quick collapse.
Namibia all out for 181.

We'll see how Kenya does when they bat, but there's a possibility that they'll only have to bat once.

Re: Intercontinental Cup: Kenya v Namibia at Sharjah

Kenya finished Day 1 at 148-5.

It doesn't look like they're heading for an innings victory, but they should at least pick up the first innings points.

Re: Intercontinental Cup: Kenya v Namibia at Sharjah

Kenya all out for 229. They get the 6 points for having a first innings lead.

Namibia has started their second innings and are already 16-2.
They still have a bit of a ways to go before they're in the lead again, and they may not set Kenya a very big total to chase.

Re: Intercontinental Cup: Kenya v Namibia at Sharjah

One of the most amazing scores ever!!!

Check out the scorecard!

At the end of Day 2, Namibia is 241-8. Gerrie Snyman has scored 194 not out!!!

Incredible!

Re: Intercontinental Cup: Kenya v Namibia at Sharjah

Early on Day 3, and Namibia is all out for 282

Kenya needs to reach 235 to win. We should see a conclusion today, I don't think they'll need the 4th day.

Re: Intercontinental Cup: Kenya v Namibia at Sharjah

That is phenomenal. Snyman went the tonk while Durant dropped the anchor, 13 off 140 is almost unheard of.

All up to Kenya now, if the top order fails like in the first innings, a lot will depend on how Tikolo, C Obuya and Odoyo fare with the bat.

Re: Intercontinental Cup: Kenya v Namibia at Sharjah

Kenya is 104-8

It looks like Namibia is going to beat Kenya here! This could be the upset of the tournament.

Re: Intercontinental Cup: Kenya v Namibia at Sharjah

Kenya all out for 135. Namibia wins!!

Snyman scored 230 of Namibia's 282 runs in the second innings.
That's just ridiculous.

Guess who's in first place (at least until Kenya plays UAE next week):

Code:
               P W D L Pts
Namibia 3 3 0 0 48
Kenya 3 2 0 1 46
Netherlands 3 2 0 1 34
Ireland 2 1 1 0 29
Canada 4 1 0 3 26
Scotland 3 1 2 0 26
UAE 4 1 1 2 23
Bermuda 4 0 0 4 6

Re: Intercontinental Cup: Kenya v Namibia at Sharjah

The Kenya/UAE match is underway.

At the end of Day 1, Kenya is 255-6.

Pretty slow scoring rate from the Kenyans. That might be a smart move on Thomas Odoyo's part though. Better to bat smartly and build up a big lead. With any luck, they'll be able to bowl through the UAE lineup quickly and enforce the follow-on.

Kenya is having troubles here! They're not dominating this match the way they should either.

Kenya all out for 326

UAE 74-1 so far in reply.

If Kenya can't get the full 20 points here, we'll have to look forward to their trip to Scotland and Netherlands in August, where they'll be hardpressed to pick up the full points. If things work out the right way, they may actually need a win against Ireland in October to make it into the final. Wouldn't that be exciting?

Let's see if UAE can pull off an upset.

Re: Intercontinental Cup: Kenya v Namibia (and UAE) at Sharjah

UAE 185-8 at the end of Day 2.

Kenya should easily pick up the points for having a first innings lead, but they won't be enforcing any follow-ons. They're going to have to bat again and build up a big enough lead to defend on the final day.

Re: Intercontinental Cup: Kenya v Namibia (and UAE) at Sharjah

UAE all out for 224. Kenya led by about 100 runs, and picked up the 6 points for a first innings lead.

So far in their second innings, Kenya is 72-4.

Re: Intercontinental Cup: Kenya v Namibia (and UAE) at Sharjah

Oh My!

Kenya 91-7

we'll see where they finish, but so far they're not setting UAE a very big target here

Re: Intercontinental Cup: Kenya v Namibia (and UAE) at Sharjah

Kenya reached 171. Nice batting from Jimmy Kamande and the tail.

UAE finished Day 3 at 17-1. UAE needs 257 more runs to win, while Kenya needs 9 wickets. A draw is possible too, but not likely.

It should be good for spin on Day 4. Kamande, Varaiya, and Tikolo should be able to get those 9 wickets.

Re: Intercontinental Cup: Kenya v Namibia (and UAE) at Sharjah

Who needs spinners when your top order bowlers are getting the job done?

UAE has fallen to 67-6 on Day 4, with Ongondo picking up 5 wickets!

Re: Intercontinental Cup: Kenya v Namibia (and UAE) at Sharjah

UAE all out for 192, Kenya wins by 81 runs.

Though they probably should have won by a bigger margin. A win is a win though, I guess.

Code:
               P W D L Pts
Kenya 4 3 0 1 66
Namibia 3 3 0 0 48
Netherlands 3 2 0 1 34
Ireland 2 1 1 0 29
Canada 4 1 0 3 26
Scotland 3 1 2 0 26
UAE 5 1 1 3 23
Bermuda 4 0 0 4 6

So Kenya moves back up into first place. Next match will be in about a month, with Ireland stopping off in UAE for a match before Ireland heads off to Bangladesh for some ODI's.

Yeah, Kenya should have won by a lot more. They won't be able to put up such a poor second innings effort and get away with it against the better teams in this competition.

So, what happens for the two sides that finish at the top of this ladder? There's some sort of entry into an International tournament isn't there, is it the Champions Trophy?

And do the bottom two sides get relegated to division two once the series is over?
