Intercontinental Cup: UAE v Namibia at Sharjah

We're currently in the middle of the 2007/2008 Intercontinental Cup. UAE picked up a win against lowly Bermuda last year, but other than that, they're not expected to do much in this competition. Namibia only played one match in this competition last year, but it was a good win over Canada.

going into this match:

Code:
               P W D L Pts
Kenya 2 2 0 0 40
Netherlands 3 2 0 1 34
Ireland 2 1 1 0 29
Canada 4 1 0 3 26
Scotland 3 1 2 0 26
Namibia 1 1 0 0 20
UAE 3 1 1 1 17
Bermuda 4 0 0 4 6

As you can see, if Namibia can win, they'll keep their hopes alive for reaching the final. (Though Kenya and Ireland are certainly the favorites.)

Re: Intercontinental Cup: UAE v Namibia at Sharjah

Namibia is missing one or two top players, but I think they brought enough of the team that they'll be able to handle UAE.

Namibia won the toss and is batting first.

Namibia 14-0 early on.

Re: Intercontinental Cup: UAE v Namibia at Sharjah

UAE strikes early.

Namibia 43-3,
Fahad Hasmi has taken all 3 wickets

Re: Intercontinental Cup: UAE v Namibia at Sharjah

End of Day 1:

Namibia 164 all out
UAE 130-6

Looks like a pretty even match on Day 1, with a slight edge towards UAE. Whoever wins, it looks like there's definitely going to be a result in this match, there won't be a draw.

Re: Intercontinental Cup: UAE v Namibia at Sharjah

Okay, apparently UAE's real score at stumps was 147-6. That's a pretty good score too, considering the partnership came together at 78-6.

Just 18 more runs tomorrow and UAE will pick up the 6 points for a first innings lead.

Re: Intercontinental Cup: UAE v Namibia at Sharjah

UAE up to 193-7 so far on Day 2.
Saqib Ali is still in there and it looks like he'll get his century.

UAE gets the 6 points for having a first innings lead, and moves past Namibia up into 6th place.

Re: Intercontinental Cup: UAE v Namibia at Sharjah

UAE 220-8, Saqib Ali was out for 104. Far more preferable to be out for 104 than 96 though.

Re: Intercontinental Cup: UAE v Namibia at Sharjah

No, I doubt there's any broadcast of this match anywhere.

UAE all out for 224, so they had a lead of 60 runs after the first innings.

In reply, Namibia have gotten off to a fast start, and are 81-1 after 20 overs.

Re: Intercontinental Cup: UAE v Namibia at Sharjah

Namibia finishes Day 2 at 164-3.

That's an amusing coincidence compared to yesterday when they were 164 all out in their first innings. Dawid Botha is sitting on 96 not out overnight, hopefully he'll stick around for a bit tomorrow.

Namibia currently leads by 104 runs. The momentum in this match has swung back slightly towards them, but if UAE can pick up some early wickets tomorrow, they still may not have to chase a very big total.

Re: Intercontinental Cup: UAE v Namibia at Sharjah

Namibia 242-5 on Day 3.

Their lead is up to 182. This may be one of those matches with split points, with UAE taking the 6 first innings points but Namibia possibly getting the 14 points for a win. We'll see. If they can get that lead up above 250, they'll have a very good shot.

Re: Intercontinental Cup: UAE v Namibia at Sharjah

Namibia managed a pretty impressive 396 all out. Dawid Botha just barely got his century with 104 runs. Khurram Khan was the top bowler of the day, finishing the innings with figures of 6/98. That means UAE has a target set of 337 to win. That's going to be tough.

In reply, UAE was 44-2 at the end of Day 3. They've still got a long ways to go. This match could still end in a draw, but I doubt it. It's possible that UAE will get another 293 runs, but quite frankly, I think they'll need another century from Saqib Ali to do it.

Re: Intercontinental Cup: UAE v Namibia at Sharjah

UAE in big trouble at 154-6.

They still need another 183 to win. It's looking good for Namibia right now, they've still got about 60 overs left to get the last 4 wickets today. At this point, it would be a bit of a shocker if UAE could pull off the draw.

Re: Intercontinental Cup: UAE v Namibia at Sharjah

UAE 202-6, did I speak too soon?????

Re: Intercontinental Cup: UAE v Namibia at Sharjah

UAE all out for 294, they wound up losing by 42 runs.

That was a close one!

Re: Intercontinental Cup: UAE v Namibia at Sharjah

Code:
               P W D L Pts
Kenya 2 2 0 0 40
Namibia 2 2 0 0 34
Netherlands 3 2 0 1 34
Ireland 2 1 1 0 29
Canada 4 1 0 3 26
Scotland 3 1 2 0 26
UAE 4 1 1 2 23
Bermuda 4 0 0 4 6
So Namibia got 14 and UAE got 6. Quite frankly, you're probably going to need to pick up the full 20 against UAE if you want to finish in the top two and reach the final.

That said, Namibia certainly still has a chance. In just two days, we're getting a battle between the current top two teams. Kenya was supposed to host, but due to the current trouble in their country, they've moved their upcoming home matches to UAE. Kenya will certainly be favorites to beat Namibia, but since Namibia just played a 4-day match in that very same venue, they might be able to gain some sort of early advantage if it takes a bit of time for the Kenyans to adapt.
