Member Feedback Poll

Message from BigCricket

All,

We are asking all forum members to give us some feedback about the state of our forums.

We would be grateful if you would take a few moments to vote in the poll, but more importantly post your thoughts about how things are going in this forum.

Anything is fair game - the moderators, the quality of the discussion, the amount of traffic, the forum structure, etc.

Voting is useful, but we are most interested in ways you think BigCricket and specifically this forum can be improved -- what we are doing right or wrong, and your thoughts generally about your use of this forum.

Re: Member Feedback Poll

i think that the moderators need to jump in and clamp down on the exchange of insults and flames more.
i also think that some of the threads are a little repetitive.

Bren -thanks for the feedback. Both points are noted and will be looked at.

Re: Member Feedback Poll

Not going to vote because I am not sure on them, but I think things are going along pretty well lately.

There are some new members just starting to post and it's added a lot more depth from when I started reading around here a year ago.

There is a lot of insults being flung around and I'm not sure if people mean them as loosely as I do, when I say anything such as that I am not meaningful about it and I'm hoping others aren't as such. Maybe a few more PMs being sent out telling people where they are heading before they get there, but less of threads being closed off before they even start anything. I would prefer more warnings around of things before more serious action is taken, I find it an insult if my thread is closed after one line saying "this is just wrong", when I find nothing wrong with it. Maybe a PM stating why and why not to start another one like that, then closing it. I am finding some rulings are hard to fathom, not just on closing threads, without explanation, as I'm sure they are for a good reason. Not saying the mods or admin are bad, quite the opposite actually, much better than some other sites, but explanations I am thinking are required.

Re: Member Feedback Poll

I think in general the site is slowly but steadily moving forward, we seem to have a good 'core' of regular posters now, the place was almost a ghost town a couple of years ago. For expansion I'd really like to see a few more non-Australian posters on here.

The Admins and Mods all seem pretty good.

Re: Member Feedback Poll

Okay two things I have picked up on while looking around just now to see if I can help in any way.

The Fantasy Cricket Board/s are a bit everywhere. I find it hard to navigate around and keep up with what is going on. There just seems to be threads dumped on top of threads on top of threads. Just a touch more organisation is neccessary. Maybe have a seperate board for One Dayers and another for Tests. Another addition that might be helpful is some sort of reward/penalty idea for good/bad posters. I'm not sure how it all works in detail but players that post more and better content somehow perform better. Not sure if that works in the simming world but it's better then random simulation.

One other thing is maybe a more in depth reputation idea. I think most people know where it is and what it does, but even if reputation seems to be given out nothing happens. The only time you can get any reputation is if the post is bad, and then it is negative rep.
I'd rather see maybe a graphic representation, rather then dots, with maybe a plus or minus on either side that encourages readers to add or take a lot more reputation from a lot more posts.

There is also a problem with the reputation idea in that posters generally will only add it if they agree with the post. Therefore someone could say, for example "Team X is completely **** and sucks ****" (without the censoring) is one I read on another site. Two people gave that person reputation because they agreed with them. But that's not the idea, it's supposed to be if they come up with inspiring and well written posts containing evidence that supports their idea and states their opinion without stamping all over someone elses. It's just that most people won't take up that idea and add rep to someone they don't agree with.

Maybe the Mods can take up a bit more reputation adding and taking to make the whole thing more accurate. I see some posters with the "infamous" reputation for saying nothing. I'm just not sure on it.

Re: Member Feedback Poll

Going to close this now as I think we've seen all the replies we're going to get. If you have anything to add then please pm me.

Thanks for all the feedback, it has been really helpful!
