Mousey up to the challenge
The Madrid Magic hierarchy has taken a huge gamble naming young spinner Mousey sole captain of the side. Co-captain Breeno stepped down earlier this week for family reasons. Mousey, who has some experience as co-captain, is still relatively new to the side himself but has shown a lot in his short time in the senior side.
"I was quite surprised about Breeno's decision but I've spoken with him and he's made the right decision. He will still be playing but, for the moment, he no longer has the time needed for a job this big." Mousey told the Madrid Times today.
Mousey talks to the media about becoming the youngest Magic captain ever
"I'm looking forward to the challenge," he continued. "It should be good and hopefully it will add another dimension to my cricket, and get me into that BC senior side."
Mousey was included in the TAE tour squad before it was cancelled. He had taken 22 wickets @ 29.18 and often contributed with the bat, with an average of 14.17.
He hopes to improve on this during the current season. "It'll be great to take some wickets and even make some runs. I'd like to see those figures improve even more because it'll be contributing towards the Magic going one better this year and taking out all three competitions. The team and leading the team will be my main concern though. That being said, the first thing I'm doing is selecting a new leadership team and new vice captains to help lead this team to victory. As I'm still studying I'll always need help, but I have faith in the Magic squad who will always be there. We're a great group and team."
