New Zealands tour of England

England are bad but come on the New Zealanders are jsut plain rubbish. How is the only one with some sense, Taylor still young but has potential. There top/middle order would be one of the worse in World Cricket

It's showing. Anderson gets his 5th wicket, this times it's How who throws his wicket away with a soft dismissal. He prods at the ball giving Ambrose a pretty easy catch.

5/77 now, Hopkins is up to 2 and Oram is the new batsman.

The New Zealand batting order is pretty young and inexperienced in terms of international games played. How, Redmond, Flynn, Taylor and Hopkins have barely played any sort of international cricket and they're being found out so far at this level. Oram and McCullum have now been thrust into senior batting roles when in actual fact they're really middle order players who can make powerful strikes when required. McCullum batted at three but he isn't a number 3 bat. He shouldn't be higher than six.

They're really missing Fleming and Styris. Fleming provided that stability and experience at the top of the oder when Styris held the middle order together. Not sure why Styris isn't playing, perhaps he's fallen out of favour with the New Zealand selectors.

Re: New Zealands tour of England

Another one gone, this time it's Oram to guess who? Anderson! Oram pushes an an off-cutter but only gets an edge and Ambrose has another catch.

6/93, still trailing by 271. Hopkins up to 11 not out on debut, he'll need a century to save his side here. Vettori walks in.

Re: New Zealands tour of England

Umpires have offered New Zealand the light and they've taken it.

6/96 with 18.4 overs to be bowled if they get back on the field. The day hasn't been called off as yet.

Re: New Zealands tour of England

Play finished at 6/96 with New Zealand still needing another 68 runs to avoid the follow on.

Re: New Zealands tour of England

With Jimmy Anderson taking 6 wkts overnight it raises the question which test team has the most depth in the bowling department.
England looks pretty good with Sidebottom,Broad, Anderson Hoggard, Flintoff, Simon Jones, Tremlett,Harmison , Mahmood, Plunkett and Panasaar but is it the best ?

I would say that Sidebottom has world class about him. Panasar at times is in the same breath.

I class Broad, Anderson as very handy.

Jones is still injured, well on his way back slowly, and hasn't even got an ECB contract.

Flintoff will we ever see him again back to full pace? I don't feel so

Harmison finished, while Tremlett, Mahmood and Plunkett wouldn't even get a mention as possible players if they played for anyone else other then England, Bangledesh and West Indies

Re: New Zealands tour of England

New Zealand probably wished they hadn't started playing, they were bowled out for 123 from just 46.3 overs. Jamie How's 40 remained top score while Ross Taylor's 21 was still good enough for second best off the bat. Second top score was actually extras with England conceding 8 byes, 8 leg byes and 6 wides. Gareth Hopkins was the last man out for 15, the only other batter to score more than 10.

James Anderson finished with fine figures of 7/43, his best ever bowling figures in an innings of test cricket. Stuart Broad picked up a handy 2/10 from six overs.

England enforced the follow-on and the Kiwis are 3/94 in their second innings, still needing 148 to make England bat a second time. Brendon McCullum is 33 not out and with him is Daniel Flynn on 21. James Redmond made 2 with Jamie How scoring 19 and Ross Taylor 14. Staurt Broad has been the best bowler so far with 2/33 from 11 overs.

Just a matter of time now for England, they've got plenty of time to get these last seven wickets, so much so they still have a day's play tomorrow. New Zealand on the other hand will be trying to save face and hope they can force a draw or at least make England chase some sort of total with the bat in their second innings if NZ can make them bat again.

Re: New Zealands tour of England

Im know Im a tad behind but damn Andersons opening spell was simply awesome.

The balls that removed Redmond and McCullum were fantastic.

Deserved those figures in the end. Best I have ever seen Jimmy bowl.

Re: New Zealands tour of England

Stumps on Day 3
New Zealand 5/177
McCullum 71
Flynn 49

Sidebottom 2/55

I agree but still he sent some wild balls down. I doubt he will ever be able to remove those from his bowling and that is why Jimmy won't be remembered as a great just as a servicable bowler

Re: New Zealands tour of England

Yeah good call Guru.

Fair to say I was shocked to see those magnificent deliveries. :)

Simon Jones has taken his 3rd 5 wkt haul in the last 2 weeks and Harmison another 4 wkts overnight for their county teams and Flintoff was bowling as quick and as well as he ever has 3-4 weeks ago according to Justin Langer and he should be back in a week or two for Lanchashire.
Also Tremlett was highly regarded by Shane Warne when Warnie was captain of Hampshire. I agree Mahmood and Plunkett have slipped of the radar a bit although Mahmood reminds me a bit of an early Brett Lee, very quick but in-accurate. I think Mahmood and Plunkett would get a game for New Zealand who I think have shown alot of fight against the Poms.

Re: New Zealands tour of England

England won by an Innings and 9 runs.

Sidebottom took 6 second innings wickets and Oram finished on 50 not out.

Re: New Zealands tour of England

Wow that was easy, NZ just gave up after the halfway mark of the 2nd test

Re: New Zealands tour of England

Over already!?

Weak effort from New Zealand. I can't believe the game is over already. England were too good, Sidebottom and Anderson were outstanding, the NZ line-up didn't provide much resistence.

The Kiwis still have a lot to learn, their side is very young so it could be a while before they start to become a good unit once again.

And the dependance on Vettori to take wickets is unhealthy.
