That is a cynical perspective, born maybe of personal experience missing out on selection. It can be extremely disappointing I know. I am not so sure your cynical perspective is a sustainable argument though. It pre-empts a mindset by those selecting the squads, that they do not value their own reputation, as both people and cricket officials. If they operate this way they will not last long and certainly will not have any success. While I am not saying it doesn't happen, I am suggesting it would be a very rare occurrence these days. The coaches also have egos too you know, they do not want to fail, just like players don't want to fail.

I think you need to understand the complexities involved in rep squad selection. I for one, do not envy anyone that has to undertake that task!!! I have seen the torment involved for the selector first hand.

There is only so many spots in a rep side. So keep in mind, missing selection does not mean you are considered incapable at that level.

1- he did not approach them, he was having a conversation with the vice pres of ycw at the our 2nds grand final and all Culps said he was thinking about coaching again and no club was mentioned and a few weeks later was contacted by that person, I know I was standing there.
2- it was not about the money, if you seen what they offered and what Culps suggested ( I can post if you want but that should be in house) you would see he was not after money.
The reason why the club was they felt for someone younger and they were unsure what type of people Culps would bring to the club.
As for being fitter Culps has not been fit for 15 years but still makes runs every year.
Anyway I am glad he is staying at KPCC and hopefully he continues to run our junior programme and I can play with him again.

You aren't quite right mate. He is very good mates with the Vice President you talk of and it was a bit more involved that a conversation you witnessed. He DID make the first move the club did not chase him but responded to his move. He also applied for at least one other job in another comp.
In his application letter he asked about remuneration and what would be offered to players he brought with him. I never said the decision was about money so learn to read. Was just saying what was asked. The club did not base their decison on money.
They wanted a younger, fitter bloke who would set a better example. Shane was a popular member of his former club and they were sad to lose him but he never set a good example when he was there and they did not want to return to the past. That was the bottom line in why he did not get the job. No other reason.

What you should be asking Shane is why would he want to leave and why would he want to take players with him. Find out who the players are that would have gone with him. Then tell me if it is good to have a bloke around your club who was going to leave and take players with him. I wouldn't want to be playing along side team mates that would have jumped ship because their mate was leaving.
I know who the players are and I can tell you, they are not the sort of characters a club would want to build itself around. That may have had some bearing as well.
A club like Keon Park can absorb these things without problem.
YC's need to clean up their act and get people of strong character who can set the example and lead them back to A Grade with a solid future. Culpin and his mates wouldn;t have been able to deliver that. It is the sole reason he didn't get the job.

Dunno mate. I would imagine he is under scrutiny as well given they are trying to steer the club in a new direction.

Thanks Big B for your information.As usaul it was worthless just like most of your comments on here. I used to play for them and i was doing was asking how they are looking for the season. It seems that if your club isn't in the top level you have no right being on here..It's a forum for all clubs in JIKA .I'm so sorry for asking but I can't image what your club is like. So if any one out there with a brain and doesn't want to insult the league can help me on my question.?? All the best to Bundoora park !!!!

Word has it that they have picked up Barry Firebrace ex Northcote and Ringwood district player, i think played a few games in the 1's

Certainly a handy pick-up. Played a total of 40 1st XI matches for Northcote CC and Ringwood CC between 2001/02 ans 2006/07 making a total of 756 runs at an average of 18.90 and took 8 catches.
