Can't let the bowling escape empty handed though. Just because the Australian's have a batting collapse doesn't mean it was simply because they didn't bat well enough, playing rash shots that 'throw your wicket away' is quite often brought on great bowling, and although I didn't see much of the first day, what I did see the bowlers had it over the batsmen.

Correct, Asif and Sami were excellent, Gul did a reasonable job as well. The less said about Kaneria the better.

Re: Pakistan in Australia

I agree Boris, Pakistan drew with NZ a few weeks ago in NZ. Winning in New Zealand is never easy and it is clear that Pakistan are a capable team.

Still, that pitch has a lot of grass on it which we can exploit tomorrow if we are good enough.

Re: Pakistan in Australia

call me crazy but i think hauritz will be the key man, on a pitch like this he'll get unnexpected bounce and a fair amount of turn still so he could be dangerous... also johnson will have a field day (no pun intended).

Agreed, especially when you look at the way their batting lineup was last game on a much better batting pitch.

Re: Pakistan in Australia

You'd still expect Pakistan to get a lead unless one of our bowlers tears them apart, any lead under 100 is manageable so we should be aiming to bowl Pakistan out for sub 200.

An interesting stat I just found out.

Since Warne and co retired in the 5th ashes test we have played 31 test matchs.

We batted first 20 times in that 31, for 13 wins and 3 loses, with a winning percetage of 65%.

However we fielded first on 11 occasions, for 2 wins and 5 loses with a winning percentage of 18%

A surprising difference, and to be perfectly honest, a worrying difference because if you are relying on the toss to be competitive then your an ordinary team.

Re: Pakistan in Australia

Strange that also Ponting's percentages of winning the toss are very low, just through sheer luck.

It seems that this new look team has brought about new luck, batting first 20 out of 31 times suggest that most of those 20 he won the toss, meaning a higher than 50% win rate.

Better than the 38% or something he has as a career average. All through straight luck.

Re: Pakistan in Australia

Shot selection I thought was not great -> Katich was sorely missed but Pakistan bowled well. Hussey looked like he was trying to hit himself out of the pressure..

I am interested to see how the Aussie bowlers attack the Pakistanis on a green top.. I am still trying to understand why you bat first when winning the toss and the weather is conducive to bowling..

Re: Pakistan in Australia

Some nice self destruction by Pakistan after working hard at the start. Australia probably should win from here as they will have the best conditions for batting tomorrow and Wednesday.

Australia will struggle to even force a draw from here. Really can't see them winning the game at all and a draw can only happen if some rain starts falling.

Pakistan have the upper hand well and truly. Australia would need to bat for at least two days to save the game from here.

Re: Pakistan in Australia

The pitch is getting better and better for batting all the time. I can see a 300+ score from the Australian's next innings, with a Pakistani lead of let's say 200, given it's a lead of 174 now with 3 wickets in hand. The pitch looks like one that was two days before the game where it had been watered down and left to dry by the time the first day came, so tomorrow should see a pretty good batting pitch. The Aussies should bat through the day, maybe having to get a wicket first up in the morning if for some reason they don't dismiss them this afternoon.

Gul and Sami look content with raking in the runs off wicket an over Bollinger.

Re: Pakistan in Australia

You guys are crazy i reckon. Australia are way out of it at this point.

Pakistan are 8/329, the lead is 202 runs. Bollinger is the leading wicket-taker with three.

Re: Pakistan in Australia

of course Australia can win - they just need to bat for 1 and half days (which will be the best batting conditions of the match) and set around 200 runs on the last day. History has shown that you sure as hell don't want to be chasing anything over 200 on the last day in Sydney

Re: Pakistan in Australia

9/331, Sami goes for the pull shot off Watson but edges behind to Haddin who has five catches now.

Asif is the new man in.

Edit: That is stumps on day two.

Re: Pakistan in Australia

Australia won't win, but may, just may, be able to force a draw if they play well. They would need 400 to do that though, and slowly.

The pitch isn't that bad anymore and as long as they play Kaneria they should have some shot.

Pakistan have my bets though, definitely.

I agree, aussies are up the creek without a paddle....this pitch with all that grass on it will be fine come day 5....unlike the dust bowl sydney normally dish up.....;)

Re: Pakistan in Australia

Well they would be favourites still if they had a middle order with someone better than North in it :D

At least your persistent :p
The main advantage of replacing North is it gets him out of the field, that was a shocking drop and should they lose it will be all his fault, if Pakistan lost that early wicket they would have crumbled and probably been out for less than 220
