1. Hughes

3. Ponting (maybe)/ clarke
4. Fergerson
5. Maybe david hussey/ north

9. Johnson
10. Siddle
11. Hilfenhouse
12.maybe bolinger?

This may seem pointless but I want to try and find out who you think will make the australian team in the future?

Have a go pick your teams

1.Hughes
2.Marsh
3.Clarke
4.Ferguson
5.Pomersbach
6.Henriques*
7.Paine
8.Spinner**
9.Siddle
10.Laughlin
11.Hilfenhaus

Squad:
S.Smith
Warner

*Has to improve a lot, but he seems to be one of the only fast-bowling allrounders in Australia at the moment.

**Put Bailey, Cullen, Heal, Holland, Doherty, Krezja and anyone else who has bowled at least one ball of spin on a dartboard and have a throw.

I was going to put a footnote in stating 'if he doesn't have any more rampages through Perth' but forgot :)

Re: pick your 2013 Australian test squad

Cripes. Who knows. It's four years away.

Taking a stab:

1. Hughes
2. Marsh
3. Clarke
4. Ferguson
5. Pomersbach
6. Henriques
7. Paine
8. Johnson
9. Siddle
10. Hilfenhaus
11. Hauritz

A lot of those players may be superseded depending on if anyone better comes along - Hauritz may be replaced by Krezja if he improves his control, or another young spinner may just appear. I suspect that Johnson is in for a quick decline once he hits 30 and loses some pace unless he remodels his action, so he may come under pressure for his place. Who knows if players like Ferguson or Henriques will ever prove to be genuine Test bats, or whether Pomersbach will self-implode.

Few others in the mix on the batting side like Khawaja and Hill, who might supersede some of the older batsmen or others that don't live up to expectations. North might still be around. Other bowling options - young up and comers like Holland and Pattinson are possibilities, but they'll likely have not quite matured by 2013. Bollinger will be past 30 and unless he remodels himself to being a Clark/McGrath style seamer he'll be on the decline. Tait's action is pretty much a guarantee he won't be around. Laughlin maybe? No idea.

Noffke will be 36 by this time, I doubt he'd still be around, especially given his habit for getting injured.

Khawaja is an interesting one, there hasn't really been much said about him in the news over here, but he's been getting the job done for NSW so who knows? The second opening spot with Hughes will be up for grabs sometime in the next four years (Katich is 34 and Watson will combust at any moment).

Guys like Holland and Hastings have big wraps on them, but only have 10 first-class games between them at this stage, so they would have to do a lot in the next few seasons to impress enough to get on an Ashes tour (Especially Hastings, given the strength of Victoria's bowling attack).

I don't know much about Rohera, Wells or Forrest, but I expect Laughlin to be a regular in the side within the next few years, and Birt could definitely press for the number 6 spot if he has a good season and North falters.

Re: pick your 2013 Australian test squad

1. Hughes
2. Forrest?* - Had a good year as a 19 year old a few years back./Warner
3. Clarke
4. Pomersbach
5. Ferguson
6. North/Watson/Henriques
7. Wade*
8. Johnson
9. Krejza - Unless a better option comes along, he's my man.
10. Hilfenhaus
11. Nannes (how old is he?)/Laughlin

No offense, but 2011 would have been better. 4 years is a long time, and up and comers could replace others.

Re: pick your 2013 Australian test squad

Clint McKay doesnt seem to have been mentioned at al

Its too hard to predict that far ahead, McKay and Holland from Victoria would be big chances and Siddle should still be there but who really knows? Everyone has Hughes but he is no guarantee to have sorted out his massive weakness

4 years ago no one would have had Hughes or Siddle in their side, I doubt anyone would have expected Katich or Lee to still be there, most would have hoped Warne would still be around

Re: pick your 2013 Australian test squad

Very surprised to see everyone putting Pomersbach in their side. His WA career is on a knife edge let alone his international one.

My dads mate knows Clint quite well, and apparently he did well on an Australia A tour a while back.

Re: pick your 2013 Australian test squad

warner is not good enough and even though 4 years is a long time i don't think he is going to be up to it.

Re: pick your 2013 Australian test squad

1. Hughes
2. Jaques/Marsh
3. Clarke
4. Ferguson
5. North
6. Watson
7. Paine
8. Johnson
9. Siddle
10. Hilfenhaus
11. Krezja/Hauritz

If Jaques can get fit again, he can take over the senior opening spot which the Kat currently fills. Both he and North will only be 34 next time around, so if North cements his spot over the next few series, he moves up to 5. But if Jaques can't get fit- I'd go with Marsh.

If Watson stays fit- he can take number 6.

The spinner role is pretty open- depends if anyone special pops up in between but it will likely between these guys above!

I like the look of Holland from the Vics, or Steve Smith from NSW. both look young talented spinners. Something we are rather looking for at the moment.
