Pietersen could earn US$4 million over three years
An undisclosed IPL franchise has offered Kevin Pietersen a staggering US$4 million over three years with "the skunk" as he is affectionately known, close to signing it.
The ECB has tried valiantly to stop its players from playing in the popular franchise and also has a say in who plays and who stays but they seem consigned to letting Pietersen go play in the Indian tournament.
Should the deal go ahead it would make Pietersen one of the top paid players in the IPL, MS Dhoni is the highest paid player at the moment with US$1.5 million a year but Pietersen's contract could overtake that if or when he signs.
The team offering the contract is unknown although accoring to the Daily Mail, the deal is being orchestrated by one of India's "wealthiest families".
Pietersen - US$4 million over three years?

Utterly ridiculous. No player is worth that amount of money for playing 11 games, not including finals. I must say if the salary cap is removed, Pietersen could hit US$10 million per year or perhaps even more and it would be a question of who's bank balance is the biggest to see who gets the best players.
This isn't very encouraging for international cricket at all. The article even hinted that Pietersen could go freelance (i.e quit England) although that has been denied.
Removing the salary cap would be dangerous in my opinion.
