Ponting, is it time for him to lose the captaincy?

I say yes.

He is a great player but his tactics in recent time have lacked originality and he is not proactive, he is reactive.

Replace him with who?

Clarke?

He'll be skipper till he retires imho.

Re: Ponting, is it time for him to lose the captaincy?

I think it is about time he did.

If Australia are going into a new era they should have a new captain. There is no point holding on to one who lead them through an era where legends such as Warne, Mcgrath, Langer and Gilchrist made his ordinary captaincy look good.

It is only now when the team isn't as storng that you realise he is not a good captain. Clarke should be the new skipper.

Ponting is going to retire in the next four - five years, no further, and he should remain captain till then, but then again we need to defend the upcoming Ashes series, and Ponting is a perfect man to lead us there because he's got expierence and our selectors need to pick the real players to tour and not some washed out hacks. (No offence James Hopes & Cameron White) BUT if they were to replace Ponting, Michael Clarke is the perfect man for the job.

Yeah Ponting has experience against Englan all right. He was our only captain in yonks who we lost an ashes under.

Alot of the things he does as captain defy logic, however he is a terrific batsman I don't think he has ever been captain material. Michael Clarke on the other hand you can tell gets along well with the team has their respect and I think would be a great leader.

Re: Ponting, is it time for him to lose the captaincy?

U guys have to be joking. Ponting is a great captain and has been for a long time now. I say leave him alone let him do his job and dont judge his performance as a captain on how the team is going. It seems everyone is quick to bag him when we lose but when we win he is a hero.

Come on guys give him a break he is a great captain and arguably the best bat in the world he deserves to be captain until he decides he wants to retire

He is a terrific batsman but not a good captain at all. His field placements are very ordinary and he says how the middle order need to go on with starts and he had the biggest start and didn't go on with it.

Re: Ponting, is it time for him to lose the captaincy?

They should replace him but like Haddin as keeper, there is no one else, so instead it will be a few players blamed for the losses when the real culprits go unnoticed because they cant be replaced

Agreed they will want to get rid of the Hussey's soon if they don't improve. There is no way Warner should be in the side ATM IMO.

Perhaps Punter should retire from one day cricket?

I don't see why he can't give up the captaincy without having to retire.

Re: Ponting, is it time for him to lose the captaincy?

He will Quit international cricket before he gives up that captaincey!

He is by far One off if not the best batsmen in the world. He may not a a wrner or marsh or hayden but he is top quality.

and in typical cricket fashion, you have a bad run or result and people want heads to roll! its rubbish. He is the only thing holding the Aus team together!

He is far supurior to Warner, Marsh and Hayden. He is a very average captain no one has an explanation for some of the tactics he has implemented over the last 6 months. Australia should rebuild with a new captain not an old one.

Re: Ponting, is it time for him to lose the captaincy?

Not sure if the captaincy is effecting him but he has absolutly no cricket brain. His bowling decisions are questionable, he lacks imagination and is unwilling to attack

He was carried by Warne, McGrath and Gilchrist for years and now with a young, rising team his captaincy or lack of is shining through.

When he is done it will be better for Australian cricket

Re: Ponting, is it time for him to lose the captaincy?

No I reckon some people in here are too quick to jump to conclusions and blame him for all of the teams losses.
If you didn't realise this we have got a full cricket team out with injury.
