Proposed Off-Season Dates

So at the end of last season, we had a long lull where nobody knew what to do and we lost a lot of posters because of it. In an effort to avoid repeating that, I've come up with a proposed set of dates to get us fluently through the off-season and back into games as expeditiously as possible. This is just a guideline/draft, and is open to recommendations, especially from the FCL admin board or senior members of the league.

April 15 - End of Season 4
April 19 - Deadline for captains to submit players' list*
April 22 - Deadline for any changes to be submitted**
April 24 - Deadline for all new players to declare for the draft
April 25 - Draft list and details are released
April 28 - BCFCL Draft
May 1 - Deadline for captains to submit squad sheets
May 3 - Season 5 Fixtures released
May 5-12 - Pre-Season Tournament***
May 17 - Season 5 Begins

*Players' List
This is a list to be composed by the captain listing all players on their squads from the previous season, placed into categories as follows:
  1. Consistent Poster - this person posts on a regular basis and will remain with the team
  2. Sporadic Poster - this person posts reasonably often (every week or two) and will stay with the team
  3. Rare Poster - this person has posted once or twice this season, and needs to pick it up
  4. Released - these players either do not post at all, or want to leave the team

**Approval of Changes
Any changes must be submitted to the BCFCL admin panel and be approved. These changes include, but are not limited to, team name changes, captaincy changes, expansion teams, and folding of teams. The last 2 will also be dependent on number of players signed up for the league.

***Pre-Season Tournament
The format of this tournament remains TBD. I have been thinking about some manner of international tournament/series within the BCFCL. For example, North America vs Europe vs Oceania vs Asia. But I'm not sure exactly how many people we have from each of the contintents so we woudl have to look into that.

I am looking forward to getting some new players into the comp.

thats over a month to the season starts thats way to long we have lost enough players allready i say just do the draft and so on next week and start the week after

Actually. I agree a bit with Will here, We have lost a lot of posters through inactivity .. Lest we not have even more !!

we just need things moving not some one new comes and we tell them to wait a month ?? thats not good

The time frame between the end of season four and the start of season five can easily be changed.

It is just a matter of getting new players into the competition. We had four or five new guys show interest a few weeks ago but not a lot since. It is a matter of advertising. The other members who post on various boards may want to play in our little comp, it is just a matter of seeing if they are interested or not (Local Cricket board, General Cricket Talk and the World Cup board).

At the moment, there will be a lot of players who will fit into the released or rare poster section. I can guarantee at least 70% will come under these two categories so we must be able to replace some of these players in order to get more posters interested in the competition.

The local board would be a great place to start and even though they are a little rowdy, I think a few of them would be interested in playing. There are also a few on the World Cup board who I feel may want to play.

If we can get posters to post, those who have made a committment to a team will visit the site more and perhaps even get them to post in other parts of the site.

We just need to spread the word.

Yeah, I agree with you lads that it was a bit too spread out. I didn't notice, I was just trying to give a couple days for each event to occur. As long as all our leadership commits to making these deadlines, we can get it done that much quicker.

So here's the revisions, get to work on the lists ASAP captains, and I'll put up an official off-season thread sometime soon. Also, as you are making the lists, if you know, mark down the player's nationality (in real life) so that I can plan the pre-season tourney.

the pre season tourn still wont happen as most of us would be from aus

You can put me down as a sporadic poster these days. Trying to be more frequent but the opportunity isn't always there. I am however still a consistent drinker.

So the season is over, and we're into the off-season. First thing first, captains have your lists in by the 19th. I will start a seperate thread for new players to declare their intent to play!

Crap, Put Aldan in the high poster category. I think we delisted Bushy for him, and Put Guru in the delisted category. Two season's of 1 post a month on the fantasy board ain't good enough. How many are you allowed on a list ?

Not too promising at the moment, the clean-out leaves us with six definites for season five with many falling into the Unsure/Released category.

The guys who are in the unsure category all post on BigFooty and are well-known throughout that site. Phil is a mod over there and Drummond and Spell_Check are known by many posters. Those three average over 8 posts on BF per day so it is not as if they have disappeared off the side of the earth.

The one who I truly have no idea about is Squiz. He hasn't been here since early February and he hasn't logged into BigFooty since March 1. He has disappeared without a trace it seems. I have done a search of his posts and there is nothing to suggest his long break as such. Perhaps he has gone on holiday but I thought if that was the case, he'd be back by now.

I will contact all four of them and ask them if they are interested in continuing with the Crusaders. All four are good blokes and were great posters on this site during their time here. They definitely add something to BigCricket.

The rest though are gone it seems. None of have posted on this board for a long time. I know BRG was discontent with the lack of posting on here (he is a strong advicator of big posting for fantasy cricket) so that would explain why he hasn't posted for such a long time.

The rest just haven't returned although Mr P@H is also on BigFooty and is also a part of the fantasy comp over there.

I am hopeful that some of the guys that have gone away will come back to the site.

With the number of posters we have presently, there is NO reason to have 18 players on a team. 15 is probably a good limit.
