MUMBAI: First Class cricketers who have played a minimum of 10 Ranji Trophy games are set to be brought under the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) pension scheme.
The board has already brought Test and international cricketers under the pension scheme and on Friday decided to extend the benefit to Ranji Trophy players.
The BCCI’s finance committee met on Friday and the recommendation to bring Ranji players under the pension scheme will be taken-up during the next Working Committee meeting, according to BCCI secretary Niranjan Shah.
“Cricketers, who have played more than 75 Ranji Trophy games prior to the 2003-04 season, will get Rs 15,000. Those who have played between 50-75 matches will receive Rs 10,000 and those who have appeared in 10 matches before the league system was introduced in 1958-59 would also get Rs 10,000 per month,” Shah said.
The Constitution Review Committee also met on Friday, but Shah said no final decisions were taken and that discussions would continue over the course of theweek. A move to extend the term of an office bearer and make it uniform is on the anvil.
“Discussion are about making an office bearers’ term uniform, say for three years. Hence there will be no need to re-elect them at the end of the first year.”
Those who will benefit: Former players who have featured in 25 Tests or more would be eligible for Rs 35,000 .Those who have played less than 25 Tests will get Rs 25,000.
Umpires who have stood in more than 25 Tests or one-dayers will receive Rs 10,000.
