Ryder injured after breaking window

Jesse Ryder, the New Zealand opener, is expected to be out for action or three months after injuring his right hand following a window-breaking incident at the Christchurch Stock Exchange bar.

Ryder's injury occurred at 5:30am, the morning after New Zealand's series win against England when he was trying to gain access to a toilet area that had been accidentally locked. He was scheduled to be operated on in Christchurch Hospital this afternoon.

Ryder requires a reconstruction to the exterior tendon on his index finger, a flap reconstruction, and a skin graft. It is expected to be six weeks before he can start light training and up to three months before he can resume playing competitively so long as there are no complications.

If there was going to one member of the squad that this was going to happen to, then it was probably Ryder. Hopefully, he'll make a full recovery and learn from his actions - as the article says, the injury should be a good enough reminder.

What a muppet.Serves him right really, seems like he can't handle his drink to me.

Re: Ryder injured after breaking window

u guys dont know the guy. hes the nicest guy youll meet. an arrogant prick on the field but a very quiet nice guy off the field. the incident wasnt because he was drunk because to put it straight he wasnt.

Re: Ryder injured after breaking window

I'm not judging the guy, as you said I've never met him, but going by his history then it was always a good bet that he would find trouble off the field.

He had a good one day series and really put his name in the hat with the selectors (despite the issues last year) but once again does something stupid - drink related or otherwise.

I hope he makes a full recovery and is back in the term, he's the kind of player that NZ could do with at the moment.

Re: Ryder injured after breaking window

i dont know what happened. why did he have to break the window with his hands. he has a great opportunity to play for his country. i wouldnt do something that could hurt my chances even if im drunk.

Re: Ryder injured after breaking window

It's the kinda thing you might hear about a club player doing one weekend but not the what you would expect from an international. I wouldn't judge the guy and I bet he's kicking himself over it now, but yeah, no one else to blame but himself.

Re: Ryder injured after breaking window

I don't honestly know what Ryder was doing out at 5.30 am hanging about toilets, if he was sober. Also, no-one would be stupid enough to smash a window with their hand if sober. Tbis is almost certainly a drink-related incident, and one that i find very funny. He's got a rep for being a numpty off the field, and after getting on the good side of the selectors with a great Odi series he goes and throws all the good work away. I have no doubts that he'll play Test Match cricket though, he's a very good batsman, just needs to sort his life out.

Re: Ryder injured after breaking window

funny thing is he always plays club cricket drunk but hes averaging 400 ^^ hahahahaha hesa funny lad. scored 120 and smashed one ofthe biggest sixes ive seen off a under19 enlgand province player. the bowler was quite quik and when jesse came out to bat his partner said "mate hes a quickie he sprays it a bit tho"
first ball got down on one knee before the ball was bowled and smacked for six over the main road. 130-140m imo. ITWAS HUGE. never seen a ball hit that far. what i like about him is he is so laidback. he went out drinking night before a cricket game (last onedayer when he got 40 against england) and tht in my mindis more dissapointing then the window accident. i think he has learnt a lesson tho.

Re: Ryder injured after breaking window

I actually like the bloke. Haven't seen him play yet, but seems to be just what the doctor ordered for NZ and all the controversy surrounding him makes me like him even more. But like most young people, he has to get his priorities straight.

Re: Ryder injured after breaking window

Ryder severed tendons in his right hand after punching a window in a local bar at 5.30am in the aftermath of New Zealand's victory in the final ODI against England, and added insult to injury by abusing hospital staff who were trying to treat him.

From Cricinfo

I think the worse thing about the whole incident is that last little bit in bold. Anyway, he's apologising, undertaking community work so the matter should be dealt with.

With a little bit of luck this will be the jolt he needs and he'll learn where the boundaries are, having a drink is ok but not before the game etc.

Re: Ryder injured after breaking window

He seems to have some issues. According to cricinfo he said this hospital staff - "Don't you know who I am? I'm New Zealand cricket." Not really something you would expect from an international cricketer.

Re: Ryder injured after breaking window

Without being harsh, Ryder is a bloody idiot. He has disgraced himself, NZ cricket and cricketers in general. There is no doubt he was drunk, there is no doubt he was larging it as an 'international cricketer' and there is no doubt he will feel very, very stupid...

If this had been Warne, Flintoff there would be uproar and ban's, fine's thrown at them. But, because it's a new boy with a history, then missing representing his country is enough.

Re: Ryder injured after breaking window

I hope he learns from this mistake and doesn't do something silly in the future. When you represent your country you can't afford to behave like that.
