Shoaib Akhtar's action

Hi,

Was just wondering what people think of Shoaib Akhtar's action. He has reached speeds never timed before or since but is his pace due to fine biomechanics, is he a physical freak or does he merely exploit his hyperextnetion to 'sling' the ball, legally?

Probably a bit of all 3 points, with the last two being the most important.

Re: Shoaib Akhtar's action

I dont think he is exploiting his hyperextnetion, because he cant really control that... Its like with Murali, he just has a deformity and its ok :)

Re: Shoaib Akhtar's action

I fail to understand why people wouldn't simply accept that Shoaib Akhtar doesn't chuck. The ICC probably knows about cricket better than those who are accusing him or 'chuking' the ball and if the ICC is fine with it, I don't understand why anybody else should have any problem with his action.

I have no issue with his action, I merely wrote that to emphasise the effect I was trying to convey is created by his hyperextention and whether this gives him pace where others cannot. By putting 'legally' I ensure my belief that his action is legal.

Wasn't talking about you there, buddy. ;) I was speaking about people in general, those who do have issues with his action.

one question if the ICC suspects that a player chucks what happens to him?

I think the ICC suggests the player has to re-model his action so its legal

Re: Shoaib Akhtar's action

I think there's a specific protocol with several steps that they have to go through, including a ban from bowling for a certain length of time so they can sort it out.
