alright boys.. help a fellow simply cricket member out....

i am usually the bloke in my team that gives the batsmen hell.... try and get into his head..

so has anyone got some good one liners (that wont get me sent off) ???

Re: SLEDGING!!

you shouldnt say anything directly to the batsmen
what we do is we get our team to encourage the bowler alot
eg. a team member in the field will say fkn great bowl mate
or the wicket keeper will say something like"remeber that time u got the batsmen in the chest with a bouncer? i hvnt seen someone breath so loud when thee being dragged off the pitch cause they cant stand up!" usually scares the shit out of a batsmen lol
but dont say anything directly at the batsmen u will get sent off

Re: SLEDGING!!

Never say 'lets stop these singles' or something preventative like that, say something to get into their head and make them think that they are about to get out, such as 'get him with your special delivery' or lines like that. Its all about making them feel uncomfortable. But never intimidate a batsmen, trust me, i open!

But never abuse them, its just bad sportsmanship

Re: SLEDGING!!

as jimmy said dont say anything to the batsmen ull either get a mouth full back (usually a good comeback)
or ull get smashed for 6
or ull get a straight drive right at ur head
lol the slogger in our team did that to a bowler that had a go at him lol very funny haha

Re: SLEDGING!!

takes theyre eyes off the prize as my coach always says. although i must say that people talking to me never puts me off, in fact i find it quite funny. There was this one game, though, where i had been in for a long time, when one of 1st slip suggested i give him a catch. So next delivery i nick it and it goes to 2nd slip and he puts it down. And i never gave them another chance. So there is weight behind your theory of just chatting to them

And i never would have thought you would abuse someone, your just too good a bloke.

Re: SLEDGING!!

yeh iv neva had a go at the batsmen
but as a tailer ender iv been givin crap by the other team
the fielder at short gully goes"look boys its a tail ender we can get him out easy" and i hit the bowler first ball for 4 and then i turned around and said to the guy at short gully"thats the first ball iv faced and iv beaten ur duck" lol and he is there teams best batsmen haha the look on his face was priceless

Re: SLEDGING!!

lol thanks m8 :D...

yeah that always works... happened 2 times last week...

"hey m8 how r ya?? how hot is it aye?? do us all a favour and just keep hittin 4s so we dnt have 2 run" he got caught at long on :p

Re: SLEDGING!!

hahah our teams wicket keeper makes friends with the batsmen lol
when its change of over and he walks between wickets and the batsmen are together talking he goes into the conversation and starts talking an discussing tactics lol

Re: SLEDGING!!

rofl i have made m8s with bloke on the field... usually when im batting but... i dnt mind a chat... it keeps u from gettin 2 worked up.... there has been atleast 5 times i can remember that blokes have been un happy that i have gotten out coz the chat had 2 stop lol

Re: SLEDGING!!

lol na... last season i had the blokes cheering me the 2nd innings when i come out 2 bat... lmao to their dissapointment (and mine) i got a duck :embarrassed:

Re: SLEDGING!!

My mate had broken his arm and it was still weak so he had to wear an arm guard, they're keeper was like "Cmon guys we got the armourguard coming in here". Next week he batted with no arm guard :p

But yeh, I usually get quite a bit of it, nothing abusive really buy stuff like "let's get the guy with the blue helmet guy out" "all he's been doing is blocking" (i got that when i just hit a four ::) ) And yeh, just liek stuff like this guy can't bat or whatever, but yeh I just laugh.

Re: Sledging

lol yeah...

i still get hit with the under 11 ones like
more swings then a playground
swing like a rusty gate
more blocks then a lego set
ETC

my all time fav.. if a batsmen plays and misses
"straight through him like a hot curry" good fun :D

Re: Sledging

I find it all quite funny. Your just standing there, looking at the field, and the slips and keeper are doing everything they can to put you off your game, just hilarious

Re: Sledging

Engage them in a bit of banter, nothing serious, just light hearted stuff. If you can make them laugh, great as that'll break their concentration.

I have a friend who just spouts random stuff and it seems to work, it makes the batting side relax and we tend to pick up a wicket or two from it.

It's also important to judge when to 'talk' and when to shut up. If in doubt stick to encouraging your own team and not firing up the opposition.

As for random sledges, I've always liked the Steve Kirby to Atherton in a CC match - 'I've seen better players in my fridge'!

Re: Sledging

Not a big fan on sledging, personally. Nothing wrong with the odd laugh out in the middle, but unfortunately, there are some (lots, in my experience) utter prats who are unable to distinguish between having the odd joke and being an utter moron.

The only advice I would offer to sledgers is be prepared to take it should you dish it out. There's sledgers, and then there's sledgers who are unable to take comments directed towards them in the same way they expect you to take them when roles are reversed.

In 2006 season, I was playing a second team game - bear in mind I'm 12/13 at the time. So I'm batting - at the end of each over there is some big 'ard mucker giving it the big 'un regarding my playing style and my run calling....(yes, seriously). So when this daft prat came out to bat I returned the favour by remarking on his technique. Needless to say, I was subjected to some long stares......and there was a slight exchange him calling me a word that shall not be repeated on here......and me giving an equally inappropriate-for-here response!!!

;)

Re: Sledging

yeah thats it... if the batsmen looks to be taking it serious (like it might start problems) thats time to back off... but if he is havin a laugh.... nothin wrong with carryin on..

one thing but... DONT talk in the bowlers run up lol
not good sportsmanship and it can be called a no ball...
