You must be in heaven. The boy must now be your all time fave. A Victorian playing for England. Or an Englishman play for Victoria. Whichever way you see it that must suit you down to the ground Ed.

If Jones survives the summer then he will be on the plane to India, it can be effective but Lee does it for different reasons for Jones, i'm not sure whether Jones is up to the fitness just yet where he can bowl 4-5 effective spells in a day and be relied upon if we need a wicket late in the day

As for Hoggy and Anderson, sure Hoggy is slightly better but I dont think it would make much difference so probably no point making the change yet

Jones is certainly the trump card for England in 12 months time

Re: South Africa in England

England were bowled out for 203, Pietersen was top scorer with 45, Ian Bell scored 31. No other big scores except for Strauss' 27, Flintoff made 17 on return from injury, as did Stuart Broad. Darren Pattinson made 8 on debut before falling to Dale Steyn.

Morne Morkel finished with four wickets, as did Steyn. Makhaya Ntini and Jacques Kallis shared the other two.

In reply, South Africa are 1/57, Graeme Smith has scored most of South Africa's runs with 38 not out while Neil NcKenzie is the only wicket to fall, he was out to Jimmy Anderson for 15. Pattinson's opening spell in test cricket was 3-0-16-0.

So, not a great start by England, Smith's decision to bowl turned out to be a pretty good one as Steyn and Morkel took care of England's batting order without too much trouble in good bowling conditions. It will be up to South Africa now to build their advantage as the pitch seems to have changed it's demeanour, the English bowlers haven't been able to extract much movement to date. Smith is looking the goods, he's boosted his average to over 49 now, if he can pass 79, his average will stay above 49 even if he is dismissed.

Re: South Africa in England

England fight back, Flintoff snares the wicket of Smith, caught and bowled for 44 and then Kallis follows soon after chopping Anderson onto his stumps.

The next over, Flintoff's 8th, was full of controversy. Hashim Amla was caught off the first ball courtesy of Michael Vaughan who took one very low down. Amla started walking and was 3/4 of the way to the pavillion but Smith, who was on the balcony, told Amla to wait as South Africa were unsure about the legitimacy of the catch despite Vaughan claiming it. The catch was then referred to the 3rd umpire where Amla was given not out although it appears that Vaughan did take the catch according to the replays.

Two balls later, Amla made a mess of one down the leg-side and looked to be caught by Tim Ambrose, however Flintoff overstepped for the second time in a row. Replays later showed that the ball may have come off Amla's jumper.

High drama at Headingley, after all that, South Africa are 3/98. Amla's up to 16 while Ashwell Prince is nine not out. 10 overs left in the day, they should get them in before the close as there is ample time if the extra half hour is played.

Re: South Africa in England

South Africa have powered on to be 4/314, a lead of 111 on first innings.

Darren Pattinson took his first wicket in test cricket, getting Amla LBW for 38 halfway through the morning session. Unfortunately for England, that's been their only joy for the day as the fall of Amla brought AB de Villiers to the wicket and along with Ashwell Prince, they have put on an undefeated 171 for the fifth wicket. Prince has helped himself to a century, his second of the series as South Africa have applied to blowtorch to an English attack which hasn't looked at all potent. Prince is 129 not out and de Villiers made it 67 before bad light stopped play.

Anderson is still England's only mutiple wicket-taker with two, Flintoff has one with Pattinson joining the wicket list earlier in the day.

The day is not too far away from closing so there might not be any more play until tomorrow. Some light rain falling isn't helping either.

Re: South Africa in England

In a very strong position now.

England lacked any sort of penetration with the bowling attack last night.

Re: South Africa in England

With England insisting on 5 bowlers with a shit keeper and Flintoff who hasnt made a decent score in a long time we cant afford to drop him

But he did get injured in the last game so the longer break between tests may help him

What changes would you like to see to the team? What sort of eleven would you like to see taking the field?

Re: South Africa in England

South Africa are 7/495 about ten minutes after tea. AB de Villiers has moved to 169 while Paul Harris is 15 not out, these two have added 65 for the 8th wicket.

The other wickets to fall were Boucher for 34, bowled by Jimmy Anderson and Morkel for a duck also bowled but on that occasion it was via Monty Panesar.

The Proteas are in complete control, they'll be wary though of England's performance in the first test where they couldn't bowl South Africa out despite giving themselves two days to do so.

Re: South Africa in England

Broad strikes, de Villiers drives at a fullish delivery and edges with Flintoff taking a nice one-hander at first slip and ends AB's innings at 174.

8/511, a lead of 308. Harris is 24 not out, he dispatched Panesar for six in the previous over.

Broad has to be close to being dropped

His average is almost 50

Its dropped to 48.36 now. :D

Re: South Africa in England

Well, two in two minutes. Harris tries to send this into orbit but top edges Panesar to Jimmy Anderson who takes a good catch at mid-on.

9/511 with Steyn and now Ntini at the crease, neither batter has scored.

Re: South Africa in England

Another inviting ball from Panesar proves too tempting for Ntini and he has a go but is caught at point after skying a dolly.

So SA all out for 522, a lead of 319.

England face an uphill battle from here.

Re: South Africa in England

Strauss gone for a duck, he edges to Boucher off Ntini.

1/3 after four overs.

Ultimately I would like to see the team as
Cook, Strauss, Bell, KP, Colly, Vaughan, Flintoff, Keeper, Jones, Sidebottom, Panesar

But for the next test it should be
Cook, Strauss, Vaughan, KP, Bell, Colly, Flintoff, Ambrose, Hoggard, Sidebottom, Harmison/Panesar

Would like to see Monty dropped, out of form and the pitches aint suiting him anyway, depends what the next pitch is like otherwise give Harmison one last shot, the test is at home so a higher chance of success from him :p

Broad stays in if 5 bowlers is required, Hoggard for Anderson is a like for like swap, even though Jimmy has been bowling as well as you might expect from Hoggy, may as well try something

Although I would also be tempted to leave Flintoff out but thats unlikely

England have out done themselves in this test with shocking selection of players leaving an unbalanced side.

The next test side HAS to be something like this PLEASE '''''''

A.Strauss
M.Vaughan
Cook
Pietersen
Bell
Collingwood
Prior (Has to be come back)
Flintoff
S.Jones
Harmison
Panasaar

Please let me know what you think. There is a lot of match winners in this team on there day. Better balanced side too.
