Spikes!

just out of interest, i use spikes but only half and half, e.g. front of feet has spikes on and rear has mounded spikes not metal ones!

for those of you who play on "proper wickets" whats your preference and why?

Re: Spikes!

Full spikes for bowling - grip is the main reason.

Rubbers for batting, mainly as I find them more comfortable and find they have enough grip to stop slipping but not enough to impede footwork.

Re: Spikes!

i wear mine as i keep wicket ad spend most of the time on the balls of my feet, even batting just like that exra grip to start sprinting and turn.

Re: Spikes!

I'm exactly the same as Scott when it comes to this. Personally, I find batting in full spikes awkward, but I guess everyone will be different.

Re: Spikes!

I always used to bat in full spikes and it was only because left my normal spikes at home and had to buy a pair in order to play. Got some that came with rubbers and spikes, used the rubbers to bat in and they seemed to help, and stopped me getting stuck in the crease so much.

Re: Spikes!

I use full spikes all the time, i tend to slip when i'm running without spikes. What spikes do you all use ? I have some G&M ones, they're not the most expensive but they're comfortable and do the job very well. I really like them.

I use G&M ones as well, the black ones, no idea what they're called. Funny, they were the cheapest in the shop :p

No real preference - if you're talking aesthetics I bought a pair made by some independent company because they looked good - Old Skool looking - dead simple and plain I hate all that logo and branding crap that's why I sit here all night not watching the tele cos I hate adverts etc. Anyway - yes simple and plain although I do have a gaudy lookig pair of Duncan Fernleys which I picked up for £40 along with about £350 worth of bats, pads, gloves and balls etc off of ebay.

From the point of view of a bowler I reckon they're essential - check this out -

Re: Spikes!

there is a elderly couple in London somewhere who will put spikes on any trainers you have? fairly cheap as well! think i will do that next time!

Re: Spikes!

It depends on the wicket, if it is damp u rather wear full spikes, people with bad knees tend to wear half spikes.... I normally wear half due to with full spikes i feel like i am stuck... I am currently using the new nike shoes which are fantastic bought them in south africa
