Yes, this isn't a figment of your imagination. Zimbabwe lost their last seven wickets for three runs in 23 balls. Amazingly, the last six batters all scored ducks.

Murali took 4/14, Mendis 3/26 with Kulasekara and Maharoof the other two wickets.

Sri Lanka 1/31 in reply, Udawatte on 22 not out thus far.

Quite unbelievable really.

Re: Sri Lanka in Zimbabwe ODI Series

Sri Lanka cruised to victory, they made it to 4/130 with exactly 100 balls remaining. Kumar Sangakkara top scored with 46 not out, Udawatte made 38.

Easy win to Sri Lanka. Zimbabwe were holding their own until that terrible batting collapse, 7/3 is just deplorable.

Murali was Man of the Match. Game Two is on Saturday.

Re: Sri Lanka in Zimbabwe ODI Series

i think lanka is being too harsh on zimbabwe by playing their major players like Mendis and Murali who just blow away the zimbabwaens, i think Lanka should test their other inexperienced players out, It will make the series more interesting.

Re: Sri Lanka in Zimbabwe ODI Series

Another pathetic effort from Zimbabwe, all out for 67 from 31 overs. Tatenda Taibu top scored with 12, Stuart Matsekenyeri and Sean Williams were the only other batters in double figures, with both scoring 10. Extras combined for equal top score also.

Ajantha Medis took 4/25, Farveez Maharoof snared 3/26 in what is proving to be a "improve your figures" tour so far.

Sri Lanka are 0/17 in the 7th over in reply. Pitch may not be the best for batting but is not as bad as what Zimbabwe demonstrated.

I don't think it would make much difference. Today's effort by the Zimbabweans has just been inept to be honest. Mendis' first over was the 16th of the innings and by then Zimbabwe were already 4/34. Muralitharan didn't take a wicket today and only bowled three overs in total so they're already struggling against a second-string pace attack and Sri Lanka's second choice spinner.

Zimbabwe will struggled to break 150 if they keep batting like this. 200 is a long way off at this point.

Re: Sri Lanka in Zimbabwe ODI Series

Tawanda Mupariwa picks up the first wicket, Udawatte drives at a juicy one outside off but gets an edge and Masakadza makes no mistake at first slip.

1/19 in the 8th over.

Re: Sri Lanka in Zimbabwe ODI Series

All over. Started to rain shortly after the lunch break so the Lankans have finished this one off as quick as they can, they've reached 1/71 in the 18th over giving them victory by nine wickets with a massive 191 balls remaining.

Tharanga made 26 not out with Sangakkara scoring a brisk 28 from only 25 balls faced.

Zimbabwe will be very disappointed with their batting effort, very undisciplined and it showed with only three batters scoring double figures and Extras equalling the top score. Today's effort was the 14th lowest score in an ODI match, they of course hold the record for the lowest score in an ODI, that figure being 35 which was set against Sri Lanka in fact at this very ground in 2004.

Ajantha Mendis was Man of the Match.

Game Three is on Monday beginning at 9:30am local time (7:30am GMT).

Re: Sri Lanka in Zimbabwe ODI Series

Boring series , there is no fightback from Zimbabwe team , Zimbabwe should better play with Ireland or Holland..

Re: Sri Lanka in Zimbabwe ODI Series

Zimbabwe are doing well in game 3.

Sri Lanka are 3/52 of 11 overs.

The game has been reduced to 28 overs per side which will suit Zimbabwe's pathetic batting.

Re: Sri Lanka in Zimbabwe ODI Series

Hard to believe, but this was actually a good game! Sri Lanka scored 7/171 from their 28 overs, Sangakkara made 57, Tharanga 29 and Kapugedera 28 to rescue Sri Lanka from a precarious 3/51.

Tawanda Mupariwa bowled superbyly again taking 4/39 with Elton Chigumbura taking 3/37.

In reply, Zimbabwe gained the upper hand pretty quickly wqith Hamilton Masakadza, Vusi Sibanda and Tatenda Taibu all getting amogst the runs. Zimbabwe looked to be in complete control when Msakadza fell making the score 2/134. Once again though, Ajantha Mendis joined the fold, taking two crucial wickets and when Nuwan Kulasekara snapped up the wicket of Taibu for 31, Zimbabwe needed 21 from two overs.

However, there was another twist with Stuart Matsikenyeri smashing Mendis for ten runs off the first two balls to make the equation 11 runs from ten balls. The rest of the over cost only one run and claimed the wicket of Chamu Chibhabha.

So, 10 needed off the last over to be bowled by Murali. The first ball was a wicket, that of Stuart Matsikenyeri which swung the game back towards Sri Lanka again. And that's where it stayed as the Zimbabwe tailenders couldn't get Murali away.

In the end, Zimbabwe reached 7/166, falling short by only five runs. Masakadza scored 77, Taibu 31 and Sibanda 25 in a much improved effort.

Muralitharan, Mendis and Thushara all took two wickets with Kulasekara taking one.

Masakadza was Man of the Match for his innings of 77. Game Four is on Friday.

Re: Sri Lanka in Zimbabwe ODI Series

So close for Zimbabwe. Disappointing they couldn't win but at the same time at least they made it a contest.

Re: Sri Lanka in Zimbabwe ODI Series

Weren't Zimbabwe on the up a while ago?

And yes at least they made this one a contest.

Re: Sri Lanka in Zimbabwe ODI Series

Another good contest on a shocking pitch. Zimbabwe scored 146 all out from 46.3 overs, Keith Dabengwa top scored with 32 with Hamilton Masakadza making 28 at the top of the innings.

Ajantha Mendis did it with the ball again, taking an outstanding 6/29 from nine overs. Can you believe that this guy has 48 wickets from 17 ODI's at an average of 9.64!!!! Unbelievable!!!

In reply, Sri Lanka also found the going difficult and it looked like Zimbabwe were going to get up and win. But, Jehan Mubarak stood up with the bat and scored a match-winning 60 not out to see Sri Lanka home by two wickets. Ajantha Mendis was not out at the end too, scoring three from two balls.

Tawanda Mupariwa was great again with the ball for the Zimbabwe side, taking 3/34. Elton Chigumbura also took three wickets for 35 runs.

So, another great game, again it was unexpected but Zimbabwe have shown some ticker in the last two matches after being thrashed in the first two. Last game looks set to be a decent one, if the pitch plays like the last couple of games, Zimbabwe will be a chance again.

4th ODI - Zimbabwe vs Sri Lanka at Harare

Zimbabwe Innings a.o. 146 (46.3 overs)

Keith Dabengwa 32 (59)

Jehan Mubarak 60* (98)
Kumar Sangakkara 23 (57)

Tawanda Mupariwa 3/34 (10)
Elton Chigumbura 3/35 (9.3)

Game 5 is on Sunday.

Re: Sri Lanka in Zimbabwe ODI Series

Great stuff from Zimbabwe. @|

Hopefully they can win the 5th ODI. They certainly deserve something out of the series.

Re: Sri Lanka in Zimbabwe ODI Series

Zimbabwe going along fantastically in the 5th one dayer.

Sri Lanka are 4/77 off 30 overs. That's a rate of 2.56 runs per over. If Zimbabwe can continue this they are a large chance of winning this match.

Re: Sri Lanka in Zimbabwe ODI Series

Zimbabwe did very well to bowl Sri Lanka out for 152 off 48.5 overs.

All the bowlers except Chigumbura (2 overs for 18 which included an 11 ball over) bowled very economically to restrict Sri Lanka to such a low total.

The key for Zimbabwe is to score runs off the pace bowlers as they probably won't be able to handle Mendis and Murali.

Re: Sri Lanka in Zimbabwe ODI Series

i just woke up and checked the scoreboard, how the hell can the zimbabweans limit sri lanka which is one of the best odi teams around? Lanka a formidable team, restricted to a mere 159 how can this be?? Can someone explain.

The pitches have been pretty bad this series so that is probably part of the story.

But credit must go to Zimbabwe so far, they really have shown improvement throughout this series.

Re: Sri Lanka in Zimbabwe ODI Series

Pitches are absolutely terrible to bat on, there's hasn't been a team score of over 200 yet in this series.

Zimbabwe are 6/77 off 23.3 overs in reply. They got off to a great start going at six per over very early on which forced Sangakkara to bring Murali on early. It worked and Muralitharan removed Sibanda and then Dilhara Fernando got Masakadza in the next over. Since then, Zimbabwe have lost freqent wickets with Murali picking up another three and Fernando adding another. The Zimbabwe side haven't lost a wicket for about 11 overs and they'll need to keep it that way if they want to have a shot at winning this match.

Tatenda Taibu has top score off the bat with 14 but Extras is winning the highest total battle with 23, 17 of those have been wides. Murali was 0/7 off 0.0 before finally bowling a legitimate delivery.

Plenty of work to do yet, the required rate is only 2.92 so plenty of time yet for Prosper Utseya and Keith Debengwa to play themselves in.

Re: Sri Lanka in Zimbabwe ODI Series

6/130 now, just 24 needed from 10.3 overs. Dabengwa on 38 and Utseya on 31.

Sri Lanka need wickets fast. Could we see a major upset here?

Re: Sri Lanka in Zimbabwe ODI Series

Ahh, Kulasekara!! Dabengwa tries to work a shortish ball to third man but the bounce wasn't as much as he expected and it cannons into off stump.

7/130, Ray Price at the crease now. Mendis has one over left and Murali has two but Zimbabwe still have a powerplay up their sleeve.

What a finish this is going to be.
