Sri Lanka v Zimbabwe: Champions Trophy

Okay, Zimbabwe's first match in the tournament didn't go so well. Can they do any better in their next match?

Sri Lanka aim for emphatic win

Anyone want to make any predictions about whether Zimbabwe will reach 150 this time or not?

I'm sure most people view this match as a forgone conclusion. I know I do. I think the next match between Bangladesh and West Indies should be a much more interesting one, and it'll be the one that will play a major role in deciding who advances to the next stage.

Re: Sri Lanka v Zimbabwe: Champions Trophy

By the way, it's worth mentioning that Sri Lanka has won a massive 12 international matches in a row. They won the final test against England, a 20/20 against England, 5 ODI's against England, 2 ODI's against Netherlands, 2 tests against South Africa, and the opening match of this tournament against Bangladesh. Zimbabwe will almost certainly prove to be their 13th straight victim.

Re: Sri Lanka v Zimbabwe: Champions Trophy

Currently Sri Lanka are 2/68 off 14 overs. Decent showing so far by Zimbabwe, but I don't think we can expect to see it last.

Tharanga's on fire, 42 from 47 with 5 fours and a six and he's starting to lay into Chigumbura. Jayasuria went for 9, run out by Chigumbura, Jayawardene then went for 4 caught behind off Ireland and Sangakkara is on 7 from 8 atm ready to pounce. Tharanga has amazingly scored 62% of Sri Lanka's current score.

Currently at Drinks.

Re: Sri Lanka v Zimbabwe: Champions Trophy

After 40 overs Sri Lanka have advanced to 4/219. Zimbabwe didn't maintain their early form as I expected. Tharanga and Sangakkara both just got out then as I'm typing this, a sensational partnership of 165, with Tharanga making 110 and Sangakkara making 80. Nobody else has really scored, sundries is the 3rd top scorer on 14. That should change soon with Attapattu and Dilshan out here ready to have a dip in the last 10 overs. Zimbabwe have lost all confidence in their attack and have used 8 bowlers, and a 9th one (Mufambisi) is warming up. Expect 300+.

Re: Sri Lanka v Zimbabwe: Champions Trophy

Maharoof Out.

6/262

Attapattu 25*

Murali in for some pinch hitting.

EDIT: Murali in because Fernando, Malinga and Perera are all playing.

Re: Sri Lanka v Zimbabwe: Champions Trophy

Sri Lanka finish up 7/285. Probably fell just short of their target at 40 overs of 300, but that should be enough to defend against Zimbabwe.

Re: Sri Lanka v Zimbabwe: Champions Trophy

Zimbabwe 58/3 after 15 overs.

Looks like they'll be able to put up a slightly better score today than they did against West Indies. Though they haven't faced Murali yet.

Re: Sri Lanka v Zimbabwe: Champions Trophy

Chigumbura just not paying attention while running.
Zimbabwe 89/6

Re: Sri Lanka v Zimbabwe: Champions Trophy

120/7 after 32

The wildlife out there most be pretty annoying, as a few bowlers have gotten bugs in their eyes during the run-up, and the Sri Lankans all have asked for cotton balls to protect their ears.

Re: Sri Lanka v Zimbabwe: Champions Trophy

Finally all out for 141 after 42.3 overs.

Re: Sri Lanka v Zimbabwe: Champions Trophy

I'd want to be playing with safety glasses as well to keep all the bugs out of my eyes. Hope it's not going to be like this in all the games in this tournament, or they can rename the Champion's trophy the Big Bug Cup.

Re: Sri Lanka v Zimbabwe: Champions Trophy

Yeah, the cameramen were sure finding lots of big bugs to focus on.

Time to break out the James Worthy or Kareem Abdul-Jabbar goggles:
